Formatting of notes settings not working on Android and "regular" settings button not visible

When I installed on Android there were no notes and no search option on screen. I tapped on the ⋮ on my app I saw this

It wasn't until I swiped down and saw the notes search feature, then the hamburger and found the cog that I was able to log in and then start syncing. And even now the options to change display at bottom R (via ⋮) remain partly hidden as above.
