Why is case <-time.After(...): broken here? This is used in quite a few other places e.g.

case <-time.After(10 * time.Second):

It's broken because case <-time.After(...): is used in a for loop where the checkTimer fires every 10 seconds. So the time.After is reset every 10 seconds.
