What's New

  • Linux — SiegeFX now runs natively on Linux, on X11 and Wayland: a self-contained download that runs from any folder, or the AUR package siegefx-bin on Arch. It finds GOG and Steam installs made by Steam, Heroic, Lutris, Bottles or Wine on its own.
  • Internet play on Linux too — the Linux build carries Epic Online Services, like the Windows one.
  • The opening plays as authored — your farmer takes up the hoe, works the field, kneels by Norick for his last words and lets the hoe fall, on the original's timing.
  • Stonebridge's barkeep — wipes the bar, looks about and talks, as in the original.
  • Video recording (Windows) — Ctrl+F9 records gameplay to video with the game's own sound, whatever the system volume.
  • Display modes — Windowed, Borderless or Fullscreen; borderless covers the whole monitor, and leaving fullscreen restores the window's size and position.
  • Capture folders — choose where screenshots and recordings go (Options → Advanced); screenshots save as PNG.
  • SiegeSmith 0.5.0 — ships alongside on the same engine, so the fixes below apply when you Play-test your own maps (Windows).

What's Fixed

  • Internet play privacy — the Epic login now carries your multiplayer name instead of your computer's login and machine names.
  • Monsters chase properly — pursuers no longer stall, walk in place or circle at region seams, and they give up a chase they cannot win.
  • The party holds its ground — a pressing pack can no longer shove your party across the map.
  • House walls stay whole — the wall above doorways no longer vanishes; cutaways open only when something really blocks the view.
  • No phantom fights — your hero fights back only against hostile monsters in sight.
  • Spell arcs — the zap arc ends when the casting arm drops, as in the original.
  • Character portrait — no longer a grey silhouette on a fresh start.
  • Swaying trees and floating logs — stay rooted instead of hovering.
  • Numbers and dates — read the same on every system; the save dialog no longer mixes your system's language into the game's English.
