Quillbound Sheets 1.5.0 (one-file backup)

@coolkvoor coolkvoor released this 30 Oct 15:20
95744e9

One-file backup of Quillbound Sheets 1.5. The installable app at the site is the main version; this file is a backup. A downloaded file is never cross-origin isolated, so the sheet's dialogs work by restart and replay.
New
Sources has its own screen, from the book in the top bar (also from the Content line on Main and the Sheet tab). Books fold per group, with Include all / Exclude all and per group; ticks no longer lock the list.
The sheet's source dialogs (single items such as firearms) name their buttons Include all, Include, Exclude and Exclude all; long lists get a search box and a count.
A tour: offered once after the first sheet opens, and in Settings → Tour. Full tour (new to the sheet) in chapters: Set up, Build, Play, Keep it safe, Make it yours. Quick tour (knows the sheet): only what differs from Acrobat. It runs on a sample character; your own character is not touched.

What's new since 1.3.0

Change the sheet's colours from Settings

  • Settings → Look has a new Change the sheet's colours button. It opens the sheet's own colour menu straight away (Form Highlights, Dragon Heads, HP Dragons, Ability Save DCs, the colours). Before, it was hidden under Sheet → Pages → Change → Color Theme options. The change goes into your PDF, and the Colorful looks follow it.

The sheet's name and a clearer start page (requested by MorePurpleMoreBetter)

  • The app no longer uses "MPMB" as the name of the PDF. It says MPMB’s Character Record Sheet (linked to flapkan.com) where the product is named, and "the sheet" elsewhere.
  • The start page shows, before you open a PDF, that the app is made by coolkvoor and has no affiliation with MorePurpleMoreBetter (MPMB).
  • A step-by-step How it works: what happens to your PDF, how the sheet's own scripts run, how your character is kept and saved, and backups.
  • What the sheet is, where to get the latest version (old copies may not work well), and MPMB's Patreon, also in Settings → Credits and licences.
  • The start page says the app was coded with AI.

About this file

Quillbound-Sheets.html is the whole app in one file, for keeping on a device and opening in Chrome without the website. It is a backup: the installable web app is the main version. A file is never cross-origin isolated, so the sheet's dialogs use "restart and replay" (the same result, with a short extra moment per dialog). Its characters are kept separately from the web app's; move one with Download PDF.

Quillbound Sheets 1.3.0 (one-file backup)

@coolkvoor coolkvoor released this 25 Oct 00:14

Quillbound Sheets 1.3.0: the one-file backup. Works with MPMB character sheets; not made by MPMB.

What's new in 1.3.0: dice rolling

  • A dice screen, from the die in the top bar. Tap dice to add them (d4 to d100), use −1/+1, or type a roll such as 2d8 + 1d6 − 1. The dice are thrown across the screen and land with their results. You see the total and how it was made up, and the last 50 rolls are kept per character (tap one to roll it again).
  • Tap a number on the sheet to roll it: ability checks, saving throws, skills, initiative, attacks (to hit, then Roll damage), spell attacks, hit dice and death saves, on the companion and Wild Shape pages too. Dice written in texts (features, magic items, attack notes, spells) roll when tapped.
  • Advantage and disadvantage come from the sheet's A and D boxes. Switching after a roll keeps the d20 you rolled and adds the second one.
  • Rolling never changes the sheet. The dice use the browser's secure random numbers, with every face equally likely.

See 1.2.1 for the changes before this.

The main version is the installable web app. This file is a backup: one HTML page you can keep on a device and open without the website, also with no connection.

How to use it: download Quillbound-Sheets.html, open it in Chrome (or Edge), and pick your own MPMB character sheet PDF. Nothing is uploaded; the file contains no MPMB code or book content.

How it differs from the web app

  • No cross-origin isolation. A file opened from your device can't get it, so MPMB can't pause and wait while you answer one of its dialogs or questions. The file uses the backup way instead, restart and replay: MPMB makes the change, stops at the dialog, you answer, and MPMB makes the change again with your answers. You get the same result, with a short extra moment per dialog.
  • Characters are kept in this browser, for this file. They don't move between the file and the web app, or between devices. To move one, use Sheet → Download PDF and open that PDF on the other side.
  • No install button, no automatic updates and no backup folder. Download the newest release to update.
  • Pictures (portrait, symbols), dice and everything else work without a connection: pdf-lib and pdf.js are inside the file.

Credits and licences are under Settings (⚙) → Credits and licences: the System Reference Document attribution from your own sheet (CC BY 4.0), MPMB's GPL-3.0 credit, and the licence texts of pdf-lib (MIT), PDF.js (Apache 2.0) and the Alegreya fonts (SIL OFL 1.1). Quillbound Sheets is an independent app, not made, endorsed or supported by Wizards of the Coast or by MorePurpleMoreBetter.

Licence: Quillbound Sheets is free software under the GNU General Public License version 3 or later (see LICENSE in the source code).

Quillbound Sheets 1.2.1 (one-file backup)

@coolkvoor coolkvoor released this 21 Oct 23:01

Quillbound Sheets 1.2.1: the one-file backup. Works with MPMB character sheets; not made by MPMB.

What's new in 1.2.1

  • Saved PDFs with add-on content open in the app again. A PDF saved from a character that uses an add-on content file (such as the books' script) couldn't be opened in the app: the stored content file was too long for the PDF library's text reading. This affected moving a character to another device by PDF and Import from another sheet. Acrobat wasn't affected.

See 1.2.0 for the changes before this.

Quillbound Sheets 1.2.0 (one-file backup)

@coolkvoor coolkvoor released this 21 Oct 22:43

Quillbound Sheets 1.2: the one-file backup. Works with MPMB character sheets; not made by MPMB.

What's new in 1.2

  • Saved PDFs work in Acrobat again after removing a page. If a character ever had an extra page (such as a second companion page) that was removed later, the saved PDF left empty form fields behind, and in Acrobat none of MPMB's bookmarks or buttons did anything. Save the character from the app again to get a working PDF.
  • Backups in Brave and other browsers without folder access: Settings → Backups now offers Save a copy, then Send to… or Download.
  • Faster during play for spellcasters. The app no longer works out every spell list again after each tap (HP, conditions, items); it does so only when something that affects spells changes, such as a level up, a new feat or an ability score. Each tap also sends far less data inside the app.
  • MPMB's dialogs: no flicker on every tap, and no flash of the sheet after OK.
  • Book marks in dialog lists ("Paladin ˢʳᵈ'²⁴") show as a small, readable label instead of a jumble of fonts.

See 1.1.1 for the changes before this.

@coolkvoor coolkvoor released this 20 Oct 23:14

Quillbound Sheets 1.1.1: the one-file backup. Works with MPMB character sheets; not made by MPMB.

What's new in 1.1.1

  • Spells: rituals and spells that need a target you can see now have clear Ritual and Needs sight tags, instead of the small ® and ◉ marks at the end of the name. The spell details say so too.
  • The round button beside a spell has a hint: it marks the spell prepared (or used, for once-per-rest spells).
  • The version shown in the app now includes the bug-fix number (1.1.1).

Quillbound Sheets 1.1: the one-file backup. Works with MPMB character sheets; not made by MPMB.

What's new in 1.1

  • Text boxes grow with their text. The drag handle is gone, so a box can no longer be dragged wider than its card and over the rest of the screen.
  • Settings → Credits and licences: the System Reference Document attribution from your sheet, credits, and the licence texts of the app and of everything bundled in it.
