Spaced Linux 10.26.8 is now available

Spaced Linux 10.26.8 is available now, with a new installation ISO and matching signed APT packages for existing systems.

This release fixes Caja preference persistence and menu editing, prevents application scrolling during smooth Compiz zoom, and repairs suggested-app installation in Spaced Welcome.

What changed

• Caja remembers Show Hidden Files. The setting now persists after closing every Caja window and starting Caja again, resolving issue #379.
• Menu editing works from Brisk Menu. Edit Menus opens Alacarte, and the menu button has actions to change or restore its icon, also resolving issue #379.
• Smooth Compiz zoom no longer scrolls the application underneath. High-resolution wheel events are consumed while the configured zoom modifiers are held, resolving issue #371.
• Spaced Welcome can install suggested applications again. Welcome 0.1.21 fixes Flatpak remote creation, while Spaced now exposes the sysvinit D-Bus machine ID at /etc/machine-id for clients such as AccountsService, resolving issue #381.
• The managed Brave default-browser policy was removed. That policy could trigger an upstream Brave settings crash.

Upgrade or install

Existing installations can open Spaced Update, check OS Release, and install 10.26.8. Matching packages were published to the signed APT repository before the GitHub release was made public.

A terminal upgrade is also available:

Reboot after the upgrade. For a fresh installation, download the ISO and verify it against SHA256SUMS or the digest above.

What was verified

The release passed:

• 253 Python unit tests and two GTK runtime tests;
• package, configuration, shell-syntax, and Debian source-package checks;
• 155 APT runtime-dependency checks;
• signed-repository trust and tamper-rejection tests;
• final ISO live boots in QEMU and VirtualBox under BIOS and UEFI;
• all 13 desktop themes on the final ISO under QEMU BIOS; and
• a visible Calamares window in both VirtualBox modes.

The VM checks exercised the live environment and installer launch; they were not completed installations to virtual disks.

Reports that remain open

The one-off flickering greeter report, issue #374, still lacks enough evidence to identify a reproducible cause. The unreproduced Brave minimized-window and draft-loss report, issue #380, also remains open. Spaced Linux 10.26.8 does not claim to fix either report.
