Rapt v1.3.0.0 - new name!

Introducing Rapt Video Player
(RIP SSVidPlayer 🪦)

"SSVidPlayer" was literally the first thing I typed when I started the project. After way too much deliberating (turns out thinking of a media player name that doesn't suck is hard) I settled on Rapt, and think it's actually pretty perfect considering the architecture at work here. HTML wrapped in a winui, and all. Heh. Heh-heh.

Anyways, this update to 1.3 is mostly just updating the code for the name change and pushing some final fixes to the new features from 1.2 (like the audio visualizer--got it supporting the glow effect and it's sick). I also added a "Controls" page to the Rapt Info window found hidden in the bottom right corner). Also made sure the "Open with..." windows implementation worked as expected. This took me 4 hours.

Installing Rapt

Windows App Version (Recommended, supports automatic updates, Volume boost, and Playlist saving/loading):

  1. Download the Windows App from the link coming soon.
  2. Install the application and click "Run".
  3. Click "Load Media" in the top toolbar and select a .mp4 or .mkv file to play it in Rapt, or drag and drop media files into the application window.

Windows Setup file (Supports Volume boost, Playlist saving/loading):

  1. Download the Rapt_1.3.0_Setup.exe file from the Asset files below.
  2. Run the .exe and follow the on-screen instructions until Rapt is installed on your machine.
  3. Launch Rapt
  4. Click "Load Media" in the top toolbar and select a .mp4 or .mkv file to play it in Rapt, or drag and drop media files into the application window.

Standalone HTML Version (Automatic updates only on the live link URL below. No volume boost on Chromium browsers. Playlist saving/loading unsupported):

  1. Download Rapt.html from the Assets below (filename will have the release version as well).
  2. Open Rapt.html in your browser of choice (Firefox/Chrome/Edge recommended for RTX VSR).
  3. Click "Load Media" in the top toolbar and select a .mp4 or .mkv file to play it in Rapt, or drag and drop media files into the application window.

SSVidPlayer v1.2

@crustyoldhuman crustyoldhuman released this 24 Oct 02:54

Huge update!

SSVidPlayer is now a full blown Windows program. The HTML-only version is still online and better than ever, but wrapping the player in a windows app has allowed me to restore features that were lost when playing it in the browser. This includes support for native subtitles that are embedded in the video itself, 250% volume boost (used to only work on firefox browsers), and playlist saving and loading.

Full update list:

-Streamlined UI movement reaction logic
-Clarified labeling
-Fixed bad shadow outlines on subtitles at certain sizes
-Added program info easter egg page to bottom right of player (hover to show)
-Playlist flyout added to left edge of player. Supports saving/loading (only the windows app version), reordering, loading srt subtitles, etc. When there's more than 1 video in the list, previous/next buttons appear alongside the play/pause button in the timeline bar.
-Updated "loop" button to include a third option for looping the full playlist
-The "Fit-to-Page" button now is a toggle. When enabled, it will maintain the vertical fit regardless of window size.
-Added data persistence for settings that are supported by the browser (such as glow brightness)
-Added a ton of missing keyboard shortcuts (see ReadMe.md)
-Built windows app wrapper, themed the title bar, and implemented special logic to restore functionality that's not native to browser playback (volume boost, play list saving, etc)
-spent 8 hours getting drag-and-drop to work on windows
-Added a simple update notification feature
-Added a SUPER SICK visualizer for playing audio
-Fully custom Inno installation script made with custom assets
-Made a bunch of promo art for the microsoft store listing
-Rewrote ReadMe to reflect the new state of the program

I thought i was done with this, but I ended up adding more things!

-I added a cool green theme as well as a matching page icon
-scroll wheel on timeline does 5 second scrubbing
-rotated the "fit to screen" icon by 90 degrees so it is more intuitive (to me at least)
-if you have autoplay disabled, it now asks you to click play or press space to start your video rather than starting it without audio
-increased the double-click hotspot to open the media browser to the whole page
-tweaked the colors for the subtitle sync offset settings so they're more intuitive
-the timeline and volume controls are now disabled when no video is loaded
-tweaked the ambient glow effect so it doesn't transition at different speeds depending on your screens refresh rate
-tbh i thought i did more but theming everything took so freaking long i think it just feels like i changed more things than i did

and finally
-cleaned up some of the cood for performance and stability

here ya go!

I accidentally broke the SS trigger for the 1.0 release when I implemented the fix for the fullscreen glow effect. It's fixed now!

Same usage as before, just download the .html file from the assets below and double-click it to open in your default browser. cheerio!
