SharePoint provides a security validation token when serving a page. This expires after a certain amount of time (~30 minutes), so if the user tried to perform an action that uses SJH after that point, they received an error. This fixes that issue by renewing the security validation when necessary (specifically, when the error occurs, SJH will catch the error, renew the security validation, and redo the action).
