tags? I've searched (grepped) several hundred studies and haven't found one that includes an

This could be something quirky with how NLM is outputting from their datastore to xml. See this study with the xml and html versions. There has to be something either hidden in the xml to tell them how to format the list in the html version or there is something in their datastore that they render in the html version but just exclude in the xml. Note, for example below, it is an unnumbered list for the line returns and the sponsor entered the numbering.
