DesktopClock in Brazilian Portuguese, with a clock reading 'qua, 7 de out, 10:09', its right-click menu, and the Settings format presets, labeled to show that the words follow your Windows display language and the dates follow your regional format

What's Changed

DesktopClock is now translated into 16 languages, and its format presets follow your region.

Translations

The app now follows your Windows display language, with translations for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, and Turkish. If your language isn't listed, it uses the closest translation, or English. (#166, #169)

Formats that match your region

The Common formats in Settings now follow your Windows regional format, so times are 24-hour where that's the norm and dates read the local way, like Mi, 7. Okt, 10:09 in Germany or 10月7日(水) 10:09 in Japan. New installs start with your regional format, and existing clocks keep their format until you pick a new one. (#168)

Other improvements

  • Settings save as you change them, so a crash, a shutdown, or a briefly locked settings file at startup no longer loses them (#165, #167)
  • If the clock crashes, it shows a message and saves a log you can report, instead of just vanishing (#167)
  • Click the clock and nudge it with the arrow keys, holding Shift for bigger steps (#161)
  • Automatic countdowns read "in 3 days" instead of "3 days from now" (#163, #166)
  • Clearer setting descriptions and option names, and screen readers now name the preset and sidebar buttons (#162, #169)
  • Hiding a clock that has no taskbar button now says how to bring it back
  • The download is about 25% smaller, and the clock uses less CPU (#163, #164)
  • The installer no longer creates a System Restore point, so installing is faster (#173)

Fixes

  • New clocks start with near-white or near-black text instead of the Windows accent color, which could be nearly invisible, and the Accent preset uses dark text on light accents (#174)
  • Starting DesktopClock while it's running, like from the Start menu, brings back that clock instead of opening a second copy that could make it crash
  • "Start with Windows" takes effect as soon as you change it, and "New clock" no longer crashes when DesktopClock was started with Windows
  • Countdown presets like "Midnight tonight" no longer shift when your time zone changes
  • The countdown target is empty when none is set, instead of showing 1/1/0001 (#166)
  • Chinese text uses one consistent font, and East Asian fonts are no longer listed twice (#166, #169)
  • An alarm sound that can't play shows one notification instead of one every time it's due
  • Ctrl + + and Ctrl + - resize the clock from the numpad too, and Ctrl + + works with the + key
  • The Settings window stays on screen, its format examples keep ticking, and picking a background image turns on Solid background
