Hi @simolus3 :) thanks for the feedback! The separate builder is required for built_value because built_value uses However, having both, as in the unreleased built_value right now, is not particularly satisfactory: if the old style builder is still configured it still adds its possible outputs to the build, even if unused, causing unwanted cost. I'm considering a way to allow having both in one builder release in a way that becomes free if the old way is not used. Work in progress :) The other option is that builders switch to the new way and remove the old way; it's not clear to me if that's a viable migration path for everyone. Feedback would be appreciated :) Re: A few random thoughts on that:
Either way I'll give it some thought :) Thanks. |

As a builder author, I'm very excited about replacing
source_genwithLibrarySourceSink:) Since I saw the documentation comment reference discussions here, I wanted to get started with a few questions:built_valueadopted this through a separate builder. Is there a strong reason for this, or could the same builder potentially do both (at the cost of applyingsource_gen|combining_buildereven when there's no reason)? E.g., could I read aBuilderOptionkey to determine whether to emit a part file or use shared parts, or is there something preventing that?_br_/path configurable? I know this only generates part files that can't be imported, but having internal sources directly underlib/feels wrong to me. Withsource_gen, we were able to pick our own output directory, could it make sense to make this directory configurable as well? E.g. for one of my packages I want to contain generated code inlib/src/generated/. Could abuild.yamloption for this be considered? All reactions
