Stepparents' children: with stepparents and siblings, a parent and a stepparent have children together (half-siblings born during the union), and the stepparent's own children by an earlier union are the new role stepsibling (family::stepsiblings()). A stepparent's union now begins after the parents' last child together and before the anchor is 18. A child living with a stepparent may live with the stepparent's children. Default output is unchanged; output with stepparents on changes.

Stepparents and households, both opt in. With them off, a call gives exactly the family it gave in 1.0.0.

  • request.stepparents: the partners a parent took while the anchor was a child, as stepfather/stepmother members with partner_of and step_parent_of edges (family::stepparents()).
  • request.home: who the anchor lives with at the reference date (family::home: alone, a couple, with children, single parent, with parents, three generations), drawn from the country's UN household figures.
  • Siblings now sort stably, so twins keep the same order on every standard library.
  • Fixes a gcc 14 build error on members named life.
  • Same dependencies as 1.0.0: birth-generator 3.2.0, name-generator 4.5.0.

@dasmig dasmig released this 20 Oct 22:31

First release. Generates the people around a person: parents, siblings (full and half, with twins), partners and ex-partners, children and stepchildren, with believable ages, deaths and surnames that follow each country's naming convention.

  • Demography from UN WPP 2024 (fertility), the UN World Marriage Data 2019 and the UN Household Size and Composition database; 235 countries in the full tier, 193 in lite.
  • anchor_spec fixes any part of the starting person (age, sex, country, name, parents, siblings, unions); expand gives the family of any member, agreeing with the first.
  • Deterministic and bit-identical on MSVC, gcc, clang and Apple clang; batch generation with for_each_family.
  • Requires birth-generator 3.2.0 and name-generator 4.5.0.
