[2.21.0] - 2026-10-11

/rforge:docs:check is now a deterministic content audit (lib/docaudit.py): calls and signatures in
README/vignettes against the exports, plus scannability, --since coverage and docs.allowlist. Docs gap-fill,
a merged Quick Start and /rforge:finish version fixes. No command-surface change (44); test-all.sh 47 checks.

Changed (behavior)

  • /rforge:docs:check is now a deterministic content audit (lib/docaudit.py), not an improvised
    prompt. It checks the calls and signatures in README and vignettes/ against the exports.
    Dropped promises, none of which the old prompt could verify: NEWS.md completeness, running examples,
    cross-package API-contract consistency, vignette cross-references, and the unenforced claude_md_budget
    warning (the key is now documented as reserved).
  • With no argument it audits the package you are in (walks up to DESCRIPTION), not the whole ecosystem; use
    --eco for the sweep. --detailed now means "also print info findings".

Added

  • lib/docaudit.py (public module, no R): signature-named-arg (error), signature-names and
    signature-arity (warn), scannability (info), coverage (warn, with --since <tag> only), --fail-on none|warn|error, --eco, --detailed, and docs.allowlist in .rforge.yaml. The text report states its scope
    and ends with INCOMPLETE/NOT AUDITED rather than no findings when the audit could not finish. Unrecognized R binding forms are listed under "Known limitations" in the Docs audit guide.
  • Orchestrator DOCS_AUDIT intent (read-only auto-run of the default invocation).
  • Dev-only replay harness (tests/harness/) measuring recall and precision against real documentation history;
    test-all.sh 45 -> 47 checks.

Documentation

  • docs/QUICK-START.md removed: quickstart.md is now the single Quick Start (TL;DR and Uninstall added, nav and
    all links repointed). The old "How It Works" and "Pattern Recognition" sections were v1 text and were not carried over.
  • Command cards no longer list seven commands that do not exist (advise, docs:workflow, site:check,
    site:deploy, deps-sync, deps:graph, r:universe) and now list the seven that were missing (capture,
    complete, health, r:deps-sync, r:install, r:site, r:tidy); r:tidy added to the REFCARD.
  • New Ecosystem analysis guide, a "Fix a docs:check finding" tutorial, docs-audit
    and session-boundary workflow diagrams, and daily-loop / session sections in the quickstart.

Fixed

  • lib.rstatus.build_recap no longer reports false version drift when .STATUS's version:
    carries annotations after the number (0.7.0 (released 2026-10-10 …)): only the leading
    version token is compared against DESCRIPTION's Version, and the drift report shows that
    token (#84).
  • /rforge:finish overrides .STATUS's version: only on real drift, so a --write no longer
    strips the annotations from a version: line that already matches DESCRIPTION.
  • /rforge:finish still adds version: from DESCRIPTION when an existing .STATUS has none
    (the drift-only override above had stopped doing so); the rule now lives in
    lib.rstatus.version_overrides.
