Release list
v0.2.0 - Windows installer (unsigned)
Windows x64 installer release of Google Photos Wallpaper.
Download google-photo-wallpaper-0.2.0-windows-x64-setup.exe, run it for your Windows account, and open Google Photos Wallpaper from the Start menu. Python and the required libraries are included; installed Chrome or Edge and user-completed Google sign-in are still required.
Changes
- Per-user Windows installer with a bundled, patched Python 3.14.10 runtime.
- Portable default paths under
%LOCALAPPDATA%; private data stays separate from application files. - Optional Ko-fi support link, with coffee/lunch/dinner suggestions. All features remain free.
- Correct failure exit codes when a failed batch exhausts its hourly allowance.
- UTF-8 output for scheduled jobs and Unicode paths.
- Separate generated wallpaper sets for sibling photo caches.
- Security baseline, package-path audit, runtime inventory and dependency notices.
Verification
125 offline tests, bundled-app self-test, compiler/source checksum verification, and clean Windows install/uninstall integration checks. Integration tests use synthetic data and verify Unicode paths, task/startup targets, hidden execution, and preservation of private files. No Google account is used in CI. Passing these checks does not prove ongoing compatibility with Google's undocumented interface.
Code signing policy
This installer is unsigned. The SignPath Foundation application was submitted on October 31, 2026 and is awaiting approval; this release does not claim SignPath approval or a certificate. See Code signing policy and Privacy policy.
The prepared signing workflow signs and verifies application executables first, rebuilds the installer, then signs and verifies the final installer. Production signing requires SignPath approval and maintainer authorization.
Included assets
- Windows setup executable
- Tagged source ZIP
- Matching full LGPL tray-library source (
pystray-0.19.5.tar.gz); the installed library remains replaceable Python source - Exact runtime/package inventory
- SHA-256 checksums
Uninstall preserves private configuration, downloaded photos and the browser profile. Existing source installations retain their saved photo locations. This is an unofficial, read-only integration with undocumented Google Photos web endpoints, not affiliated with Google or JBS.

v0.1.0 - Initial Windows source release
Initial Windows source release of google-photo-wallpaper.
-
Select private Google Photos albums through a dedicated, user-signed-in Chrome profile.
-
Maintain a bounded photo cache: at most 50 download attempts per rolling hour, up to 500 photos and 1 GiB by default.
-
Generate scattered-print collages, with configurable photo count and rotation interval (20 photos / 10 minutes by default).
-
Apply the same complete wallpaper to all monitors, or use downloaded photos with JBS or another wallpaper tool.
-
Separate downloader and wallpaper settings, tray controls, startup installer, and independent scheduled jobs.
Install
Download google-photo-wallpaper-v0.1.0-source.zip, extract to a permanent folder, and run Setup.cmd, then Start-App.cmd. Requires Windows 10/11, Python 3.12+ with Tkinter, and Chrome. This is a source release, not a bundled executable. See the README and docs/agent-install.md for full instructions.
Google sign-in/MFA and album selection require the user. This is an unofficial project using undocumented web endpoints; Google can change or reject access. The download cap is not a guarantee of account safety or permission from Google. No Google Photos content is modified or deleted.
MIT license for original code; dependency notices and license texts included. Personal photos, album configuration, browser profiles, cookies, and logs are excluded from the release.
Validation: 118 offline tests passed in a fresh Windows Python 3.13 environment; dependency consistency and PowerShell syntax checks passed. Live Google website compatibility is not established by offline tests.
Code signing policy: https://github.com/dctian/google-photo-wallpaper/blob/main/CODE_SIGNING_POLICY.md . SignPath Foundation onboarding is being prepared. This source-only release contains no signed executables.
