GSV v0.4.0
Commit: ba7b494 · Built: 2026-07-14T17:04:37Z · Release tag: v0.4.0
Changelog
Runtime and processes
- Agent runs are now interruptible: new user messages cancel superseded work without stale tool results leaking into the next response.
- Tool calls, CodeMode, device requests, process IPC, and streamed bodies now support end-to-end cancellation and bounded timeouts.
- Added native proc spawn, proc reset, and proc kill commands with consistent process lifecycle semantics.
- Human approval requests now reach every connected session owned by the user and include the process ID needed to answer them.
- Conversations now compact automatically near context limits using atomic, cancellable, time-bounded, fallback-aware compression.
Protocol, files, and media
- Introduced WebSocket protocol v2 with binary frame bodies for files, HTTP, process media, transcription, images, speech, and package-app traffic.
- Unified filesystem behavior between GSV and connected machines, including byte-correct UTF-8 appends, empty files, searches, edits, copies, and deletion.
- fs.read now returns raw unnumbered text to syscall and CodeMode callers while preserving line numbering in the model-facing Read tool.
- Improved media handling with content-based image detection, preserved MIME types, safer process media references, and more accurate image descriptions.
- net.fetch now streams request and response bodies consistently across gateway and connected-machine targets.
Chat, voice, browser, and integrations
- Redesigned the chat dock’s icons, tooltips, branch selector, context controls, archive actions, popovers, and transcript layout.
- Stabilized live transcription with ordered segments, cancellation, process-aware configuration, and fallback transcription models.
- Hardened browser-extension reconnection, heartbeat negotiation, stale-route cleanup, and cancellation after connection loss.
- Browser automation now opens new tabs in the background by default instead of stealing focus.
- Fixed MCP sign-in, live connection status, and tool discovery for servers that omit optional MCP methods.
- Browser targets can now be forgotten from the web console, and the extension uses the GSV favicon.
Security and operations
- Scoped process, package, notification, adapter, and approval signals to their owning users.
- Added durable adapter-account ownership and enforced account capabilities for package applications.
- Scheduled and service work now requires a real run-as identity instead of silently falling back.
- Replaced gateway-hosted CLI mirroring with verified release downloads and release-matched installation links.
Upgrade notes
- 0.4.0 includes a breaking change in the underlying protocol: update the gateway, CLI/device daemons, browser extension, and custom SDK clients together. Make sure they are using v0.4.0.
- The schema migration interrupts pending tools, approvals, and IPC work and is not safely reversible to 0.3.3; quiesce active work before upgrading.
- sys.update, gateway-hosted CLI mirrors, and deprecated signal-watch compatibility keys have been removed.
