Auton 1.0.0 is the first stable release of the standalone remote-execution product. The auton client selects targets and orchestrates scenarios; each autond daemon controls authentication, endpoint permissions, execution and local history.

What is included

  • CLI and ncurses TUI with endpoint discovery, job/output inspection and explicit multi-daemon views.
  • Named targets/groups, ordered failover and multi-target scenarios/groups with separate step results.
  • Maintenance admission controls and explicit failed, skipped and unknown outcomes. Ambiguous POST requests are never automatically replayed.
  • Optional independent SQLite stores for authentication and retained job history. Interrupted jobs are never replayed.
  • Argon2 accounts, scoped expiring/revocable tokens, origin-bound client credentials and optional browser sessions with CSRF protection.
  • Optional local Web console, confirmed endpoint execution and bounded rotating JSONL journals.

Install

python -m pip install "auton==1.0.0"
python -m pip install "autond[auth]==1.0.0"

Install only the component needed on each machine. Docker image: decryptus/auton:1.0.0 (also v1.0.0).

Upgrade and limits

Read the 1.0 upgrade guide before replacing 0.3.2. Existing CLI/API and explicit legacy Basic authentication remain supported; new example configurations require authentication. SQLite accounts are provisioned explicitly, and auth/history use separate files.

Python 3.10–3.12 on Linux/Unix. History is in memory unless SQLite is configured. Client-side scenarios require a live client; stopping observation does not cancel remote commands. Abrupt daemon death can leave child processes alive. Redis, SSO/OIDC, mTLS, Python 3.13+ and cancellation are deferred.

Validation

179 regression/integration tests, Python 3.10–3.12, non-root Docker image, authenticated Compose restart/persistence, browser acceptance, documentation, wheel/sdist parity and installed-package checks. Actual 0.3.2/new client-server combinations pass in both directions outside the source checkout.
