Hi DeepSeek team and community,

I noticed the repo ships desktop builds for macOS and Windows but not Linux, so I put together a native Linux client for DeepSeek Harness. It's built with Tauri v2, Rust and WebKit2GTK instead of Electron, so it's much lighter. In my testing it uses under 80 MB of RAM.

What it does

• Daemon supervision: starts and monitors the Node.js daemon (@deepseek-ai/dsh) on loopback port 3000 and restarts it if it crashes
• WebSocket bridge: a Tokio-based multiplexer that streams reasoning output in real time
• Desktop integration: app menu entry (GNOME, KDE, Hyprland, Rofi), SVG and 512px icons, and a dsh:// URL handler
• Packaging: built with GitHub Actions, available as .AppImage, .deb and .rpm

Status

This is an early version and not feature-complete yet. I'll keep maintaining it as a community project. Feedback is welcome, and I'm happy to help if you ever want a Linux client upstream.

Just tested the v0.2.3 build on my Linux setup. You can tell it's an early release and not 100% feature-complete yet, but the core functionality works smoothly right out of the box. The UI looks super clean, and the low RAM usage with Tauri is a huge plus compared to Electron. Great initiative for the Linux community—looking forward to future updates!

Yeah, this is just the initial release to get a working native client out there for Linux users, and I'm actively working on adding the missing features and polishing the UI. If you run into any bugs or have specific features you'd like to see in the next update, feel free to drop them here or open an issue!

Special thanks to @daniel0614ttt for the honest input. You're right, the web UI already works fine on its own, so a separate Linux desktop client isn't really needed 👍 After thinking it over, I've decided to stop developing this client.

A few notes:

• 📦 The repo and the published releases (AppImage / deb / rpm) will stay up, so anyone who wants to try it can still download it
• 🧩 I learned a lot building it (Tauri, Rust, packaging and CI), so it was worth it for me
• 🚀 I'm working on a related new project and will share it here if it turns out well 👀
