rCommander is a two-panel file manager in the tradition of Total Commander and Double Commander, written in Rust. It is built for Windows first; Linux and macOS packages ship with every release since 0.9.0.
Early development. Releases run on Windows, Linux and macOS. Every page marks a feature as planned until it ships, so "planned" disappears feature by feature.

- Two panels, keyboard first. Tabs with folder history and a directory hotlist, column and brief views, sorting, selection with Ins and Space, quick search, quick filter and a command line, Explorer's icons and context menu, F-key operations (F3 view … F8 delete) through a background queue with progress, conflict handling and a queue window, drag and drop with the Explorer, and a command palette (Ctrl+Shift+P). In the current build.
- Tools. File search (Alt+F7) and the branch view (Ctrl+B), the Lister (F3) and Quick View (Ctrl+Q), multi-rename (Ctrl+M), compare by content and synchronize directories, checksums, split and combine, properties and attributes, links, occupied space. In the current build.
- Archives as folders. zip, 7z and tar archives opened in the panel, tested, extracted and packed. In the current build.
- A terminal in any panel. Switch a panel from the file list to PowerShell, cmd, a WSL shell or a shell on an SSH server and back with one key; a local shell and the panel follow each other's folder. In the current build.
-
WSL and servers in the drive bar. WSL distributions next to
C:, SSH and FTP servers next to them. In the current build: SSH servers open in a panel over SFTP, FTP and FTPS servers over FTP. -
A small connection manager. SSH, FTP and FTPS servers in folders (Ctrl+F), passwords and
keys in an encrypted vault, ssh-agent and Pageant, import from
~/.ssh/configand, under Settings → Import, from Total Commander (hotlist, tabs, connections), login scripts such assudo -ithat run when an SSH terminal opens, a command run on a server, host-key and FTPS certificate questions in the window, connection tests, quick connections on Ctrl+N. In the current build. - Copy anywhere. Local ↔ SFTP/FTP (F5, F6), and a broken transfer resumes where it stopped, also after a restart. In the current build; server ↔ server as a stream planned for 0.6.
- One file to back up. Settings, connections and the encrypted passwords and keys live in one database that you can back up at any time, also while rCommander runs. In the current build.
- Every function for agents. A built-in MCP server lets Claude Code and other assistants use the same commands as the keyboard; anything destructive or that runs a program asks you first, in the window. In the current build, growing with every feature.
- No remote desktop (RDP, VNC).
- No Total Commander plugins (WCX, WDX, WFX, WLX) before 1.0.
What each release changed is in the repository's CHANGELOG.md.
