Reoling 1.0.1
Reoling 1.0.1 comes with the same two packages as 1.0.0: a .deb for
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and later and an AppImage for other distributions, both
built on Ubuntu 24.04 by the release workflow.
Supported systems
x86_64 Linux, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or newer (Debian 13 or newer too). The
AppImage runs on any distribution with glibc 2.39 and GLib 2.80 or newer
(Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 40, Debian 13 and later).
What 1.0.1 brings
- AppImage: it runs on the system's GTK 4 and GStreamer where they are at
least as new as its own (GTK 4.14, GStreamer 1.24), so a desktop theme
written for a newer GTK renders in full (on newer Ubuntu releases this
brings back the Playback calendar's marks for the days with
recordings), and on its own copies otherwise; a line on stderr names
the choice, andREOLING_GTK_STACK=hostorbundledforces it. On a
system with libva but without libva-x11 the software decoders and AAC
sound work too: the AppImage brings the libva libraries the system
lacks. - Decoding: Auto, now "Auto (integrated GPU first)", prefers the
integrated GPU's hardware decoder over a dedicated card's (1.0.0 took
the one GStreamer ranked first, NVDEC over VA-API), then software; a
second Auto mode, "Auto (dedicated GPU first)", prefers the card. An
Auto stored by 1.0.0 becomes the first. System Status shows the kind of
GPU each hardware decoder runs on, where it is known, and the decoders
the latest live and recorded streams started with. - Starting Reoling while it runs brings its open window to the front
instead of logging in to every device a second time. - A device refusing a login for another reason than a wrong password no
longer makes Reoling forget the saved password, and neither does a
mistyped password or user name in the login dialog. - With Theme set to Auto, the theme is loaded once at start instead of
three times.
Installation
AppImage (Reoling-1.0.1-x86_64.AppImage):
chmod +x Reoling-1.0.1-x86_64.AppImage
./Reoling-1.0.1-x86_64.AppImageIt mounts itself with FUSE 2 (libfuse2 or libfuse2t64); without it,
--appimage-extract-and-run unpacks it for that run. The first start gives
the file the Reoling icon in GNOME Files and, where the .deb is not
installed, adds a Reoling entry to the applications menu and the dock. It
uses the system's GTK 4 and GStreamer when they are at least GTK 4.14 and
GStreamer 1.24, and its own copies otherwise.
Debian package (reoling_1.0.1-1_amd64.deb):
sudo apt install ./reoling_1.0.1-1_amd64.debapt installs the GTK 4 and GStreamer runtime with it and recommends a
VA-API driver and a keyring for the device passwords. Reoling then appears
in the applications menu.
