FastScan 0.3.2
A fix for a crash while scanning.
What's new
- FastScan no longer crashes when a page is an even gray all the way to its edge, such as the plain back of a photo. Pages like this are now kept at their full scanned size.
Coming from 0.3.0? Version 0.3.1 explained scanner problems in plain language, went back to the ready screen when you stop a scan before any page comes through, and lined up the labels in Settings.
What it does
- Scans papers and photos from an Epson FastFoto FF-680W over Wi-Fi, both sides, and drops blank backs.
- Turns papers into searchable PDFs, about 1 MB per page or less.
- Suggests a name and folder for each document with Apple's on-device model, following the patterns already in your filing cabinet. Nothing is filed until you press File It, and Undo puts it back.
- Sends photos to Apple Photos, with writing on the back as the caption.
- Lets you switch a document between color and grayscale, or keep only the fronts, without scanning again.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later. Filing suggestions use Apple Intelligence when it is turned on, and a built-in heuristic when it is not.
- An Epson FastFoto FF-680W on the same Wi-Fi network. It is the only scanner tested so far.

Clearer scanner messages, and a few fixes.
What's new
- Scanner problems are explained in plain language. A busy scanner says another app or computer is using it, and an unexpected error says what to try next instead of showing the scanner's raw details.
- Stopping a scan before any page comes through, in FastScan or on the scanner, goes back to the ready screen.
- In Settings, the labels now line up with the text in their menus.
Coming from 0.2.0? Version 0.3.0 replaced SANE with FastScan's own scanner client, which talks to the Epson FF-680W directly. It also added clearer messages when the scanner needs attention, and asks before you close the window on a scan that isn't filed.

FastScan now talks to your scanner directly, with nothing else inside the app.
What's new
- FastScan has its own scanner client. It speaks the Epson FF-680W's network protocol itself instead of going through SANE, so the app no longer bundles a driver.
- Clearer handling when the scanner needs attention: paper jams, double feeds, an open cover, the scanner's Stop button, and a scanner that another app is using.
- Closing the window before you file a scan now asks first, so a scan isn't lost by accident.

FastScan now installs on any Mac with Apple silicon: put a stack in the feeder, press Scan, and it's filed where it belongs.
What's new
- No Homebrew. FastScan carries its own copy of SANE, the driver that talks to the scanner, so there is nothing else to install.
- Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. macOS opens FastScan like any other downloaded app, without a trip to Privacy & Security.
- FastScan › Acknowledgements lists the open-source software inside the app and its licenses.
