Okytes v0.0.1

This is the first public preview release of Okytes, a local download manager built around reliable transfers, resumable downloads, and persistent download history.

Available downloads

Windows

  • NSIS .exe installer
  • MSI .msi installer
  • Browser native-host integration

Linux

  • Debian/Ubuntu .deb
  • Fedora/RHEL-compatible .rpm
  • Portable .AppImage

The current Linux packages target x86_64 systems.

Browser extension

  • Chromium extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and other Chromium-based browsers
  • Firefox build for temporary/development installation

The Chromium ZIP is an unpacked extension package. Extract it, enable Developer Mode on the browser's extensions page, and select Load unpacked.

macOS availability

A macOS build is not included in v0.0.1.

Producing a distributable macOS release requires a native macOS build environment, along with appropriate signing and notarization. macOS packages are planned for a future release.

Highlights

  • Native desktop download manager
  • Persistent download queue and history
  • Pause, resume, retry, and cancellation controls
  • Durable transfer checkpoints
  • Download integrity verification
  • Browser extension integration through native messaging
  • Local CLI and daemon components
  • Linux and Windows installer packages

Important notes

This is an early preview release. Bugs, incomplete features, and compatibility issues may still exist.

The supplied installers and extensions may be unsigned. Windows SmartScreen, Linux package tools, and browsers may therefore display security or developer-mode warnings. Verify that files were downloaded from the official Okytes GitHub repository before installing them.

Firefox permanent distribution and Chrome Web Store publication are not included in this release.
