I don't think we have seen enough information to find out what the problem is or even reliably reproduce it.

@yosifkit I've been struggling trying to figure this out for about a day and a half. I thought it might be because I was evaluating finagle-mysql, but mysql-connector-java also has this problem.

I created a small Java sample based on a finch TODO example: https://github.com/jimschubert/docker_mysql_124

The project is setup to build the application locally using Scala/sbt. Then run docker-compose up and you should get the error (see README in the repository for full output from my run).

I have the same problem with docker-compose on Ubuntu 15.10. Here is my docker-compose.yml and my Dockerfile.

My mysql container exits after a few minutes and spits out the same error before exiting.

I've been having the same issue with a PDNS container and a MySQL container. PDNS tries to go do a lookup, and the connection is gone. The logs for MySQL show:

@aleks I'm unable to reproduce any issues with HappyFeed -- I went back to https://github.com/aleks/HappyFeed/commit/74a7fad9504612a1cf9bb5e89f27a765cf15392f so that it still used MySQL, and let it run all weekend and came back with everything still functioning properly (and the feed I added had some appropriate content displayed) 😕

I found out what my issue was. I thought it was mysql, it was actually that i was running migrations from from sequelize and it was exiting while commands where running. So mysql was producing errors, but it was not mysqls fault, it was just telling me a connection had died, not that it killed it.
