Build an rpm
package for Signal-Desktop to install Signal on Fedora / RHEL 7.
- Clone the repo &&
cd
into it. - Execute
make clean && make dependencies && make build
- Install the just built
rpm
package (./RPMS/x86_64/*.rpm
) with eitheryum
ordnf
. - Execute
signal-desktop
from the commandline.
If my current Signal copy is outdated you should be able to execute
./update.sh
and rebuild the rpm
package.
The official Repository for Signal doesn't yet contain an official rpm
for Fedora/RHEL users.
Furthermore I never built an rpm
by myself, so I thought that would make a good learning project.
Sure you can! I've included a simple but useful Vagrantfile
in the project
root. With this you can spawn two VirtualBox VMs (CentOS 7 & Fedora 27), build the source and see for
yourself if it's working or not. (Let me know if something isn't).
Fedora:
vagrant up fedora && vagrant ssh fedora
cd /vagrant
make dependencies && make build
dnf install ./RPMS/x86_64/Signal-Desktop-1.11.0-1.fc27.x86_64.rpm
CentOS
vagrant up centos7 && vagrant ssh centos7
cd /vagrant
make dependencies && make build
sudo yum install ./RPMS/x86_64/Signal-Desktop-1.11.0-1.el7.centos.x86_64.rpm -y
