v0.2e
A fix for the "Your gamer profile is not signed in" problem in the upstream code.
Fixed
- All platforms: the game no longer loops on "Your gamer profile is not signed in", where choosing Yes went to a black screen and back to the same prompt, and No played without saving. This happened when your controller wasn't Windows' controller 1, for example with a second controller connected, with Steam Input or DS4Windows, or after reconnecting a controller. Only player 1 has a profile, and the game was asking about player 2, 3 or 4. Now the first controller or keyboard you use becomes player 1. The original skate3recomp has the same problem (issues mchughalex#39, mchughalex#63, mchughalex#106 and mchughalex#132).
v0.2d
Linux and macOS fixes: New San Van setup works on the Steam Deck again, and New San Van now has its original traffic and pedestrians there. I tested the Linux installer and loading into the Skate 2 map myself.
Fixed
- Linux / Steam Deck: setup no longer stops with "Unable to start setup: exec format error". The ZIP used symbolic links inside the bundled Python, and some extract tools write those as small text files instead. The Linux and macOS packages now contain no links, so any extract tool works.
- Linux / macOS: New San Van now has its original Skate 2 traffic, pedestrians and pedestrian speech. A file path written for Windows made the game refuse them on Linux and macOS.
- Linux: extracting to an exFAT or NTFS drive (an SD card or USB drive formatted on Windows) no longer runs into files whose names differ only by case.
- Linux / macOS: if the setup tools lost their permissions (for example after copying the files from a Windows PC), the game now restores them instead of failing with "Permission denied".
- All platforms: the update window's text no longer runs off the left edge of the screen. You'll see this from the next update on, because the window offering v0.2d is still drawn by the version you have now.
Updating
- The game offers the update when it starts, or you can unzip the new files over your installation. No New San Van update is needed.
- Linux setup that failed with v0.2c: extract v0.2d over the old folder (or into a new one) and start the game again to run setup.
Setup notes
- Linux needs glibc 2.38 or newer (current SteamOS, Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 39 or newer).
- macOS needs an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 15 or newer. Move the app to Applications before opening it the first time, so the in-game updater can replace it later.
v0.2c
A quick fix for another issue with the upstream skate3recomp. Starting a new game no longer gets stuck on the "Select a difficulty level" screen with an empty box. This was reported most recently in skate3recomp#184. The issue happened when the short video after the difficulty choice was skipped right as it began, by pressing A to quickly go through the first screens. Menu videos can now be skipped once they have played for a moment (1.5 seconds), and a press made earlier is remembered and applied then. The startup logos still skip instantly when the new auto-start option is enabled in the System menu; disable auto-start when beginning a new game since you will not be able to control the menu. If a stuck attempt left a new save behind, delete that save folder and start the new game again.
The game offers the update when it starts, or you can unzip the new files over your installation.
v0.2b
A fix release, mostly for Linux and macOS. Most of these fixes come from pull requests contributed to the upstream skate3recomp and rexglue-skate3 projects.
Linux and Steam Deck
- Fixed the picture freezing while the game keeps running (sound and controls still worked). (rexglue-skate3#13 by @drewsipher)
- Controllers now work on Linux: the build now includes SDL's udev and USB controller support, and controllers that are already connected at startup are picked up. (rexglue-skate3#14 by @drewsipher)
- Fixed the photo screen after an event dropping to about 5 fps. (rexglue-skate3#20 by @drewsipher)
- Fixed an idle audio thread using a full CPU core (macOS too). (rexglue-skate3#19 by @drewsipher)
- Crashes no longer leave game memory behind in
/dev/shm, which could make Steam itself crash until a reboot (macOS too). (rexglue-skate3#15 by @drewsipher) - A system-installed RenderDoc library (SteamOS has one) is no longer loaded into every run (macOS too). (rexglue-skate3#16 by @drewsipher)
- New
steam-skate3.shlauncher in the Linux download for adding the game to Steam (Game Mode and Desktop Mode). It uses the system libraries instead of Steam's, blocks idle sleep while the game runs, and closes a copy that was left running. SeePLATFORM_SETUP.md. (skate3recomp#191 by @drewsipher)
macOS
- Fixed a black screen at startup, or after resizing or switching fullscreen during a load (Linux too). (rexglue-skate3#7 by @spekulazarus)
All platforms
- Fixed an occasional freeze on the first frame at startup (about one launch in five). (rexglue-skate3#17 by @drewsipher)
- Fixed music skipping and drifting off tempo with a large audio buffer. (rexglue-skate3#21 by @drewsipher)
- Fixed the skater's shirt disappearing or lagging behind while its cloth is moving. (skate3recomp#166 by @zeezme)
- Custom maps: surfaces that drew as a single flat colour now show their textures. (skate3recomp#130 by @andrewnakas)
- The game no longer fails to start when its log folder can't be written. (rexglue-skate3#3 by @mrmos)
- Fixed Edit Skater freezing on its loading screen and then closing the game for a skater with no portrait yet. Skater portraits in menus are now off by default, and updating turns them off once. To try them, set
skate3_native_render_scene_menu_rtt_passes = trueinsettings.toml(see Known limitations).
Updating
- From v0.2a: the game offers the update when it starts, or you can unzip the new files over your installation. No New San Van update is needed.
Credits
Thanks to @mchughalex for Skate 3 Recomp and the rexglue SDK, to @drewsipher, @spekulazarus, @mrmos, @zeezme and @andrewnakas for the fixes in this release, and to @schillers14-lab and @elespink for earlier ones. The README now has a Credits section.

The updated version will work with an existing installation of New San Van, but it does require providing the Skate 2 game and DLC data for a map update.

To update your Windows version just overwrite the files. New San Van installer rerun is not required for an existing complete v0.1b installation.
For a new install the Skate 3 and Skate 2 game data are required, including the DLC packages or extracted data.
Linux and macOS builds not yet tested.
v0.1b Windows
