@duckfollow duckfollow released this 31 Oct 07:31

Ultron v0.1.0-alpha.5

A refreshed sidebar and terminal toolbar, with a searchable folder picker for saved SSH connections.

Changes

  • Open a project's connections in a searchable modal from either the expanded sidebar or the compact folder icon rail. The current connection is marked separately.
  • Rename folders from the picker. Renames update all saved members in one write, reject blank/duplicate names, preserve connection metadata, and keep folder order. Ungrouped cannot be renamed.
  • Refreshed sidebar with folder cards, connection counts, an empty workspace state, and grouped Snippets/Help controls. Click the Ultron logo or name to collapse/expand; the existing sidebar preference remains persistent across restarts.
  • Grouped terminal tools for splitting/appearance, font size, and search/clear. Search highlights when active, and controls wrap on narrower windows.
  • Emphasize SSH host/IP addresses in the terminal toolbar and status bar while keeping usernames and ports readable.
  • Added text and color for Connecting, Session active, and Disconnected in the terminal toolbar and connection picker. Session active indicates a running SSH process, not confirmation of successful remote authentication. If a saved connection has multiple sessions, active sessions take precedence over starting or ended sessions.

Install

Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13.5 or later. Download the DMG and drag Ultron into Applications.

Save terminal work and quit Ultron before replacing the app. Running sessions, tabs, and pane layouts are not restored after quitting. Saved profiles, snippets, group/server order, and preferences remain on this Mac.

This alpha is ad-hoc signed and is not notarized by Apple. Developer ID signing, notarization, and Intel builds are not included.

Validation

  • 20 frontend/model tests and 16 native tests passed.
  • Isolated local SSH integration passed separately.
  • TypeScript, Rust formatting, production web build, macOS app/DMG build, and bundle/DMG integrity checks passed locally.
  • Changed UI layouts were inspected in browser fixtures using sample connection data. A full native UI walkthrough and restart check were not performed.
  • Optional interactive Keychain testing was not rerun; authentication behavior is unchanged.

Ultron v0.1.0-alpha.4

@duckfollow duckfollow released this 29 Oct 16:01

Ultron v0.1.0-alpha.4

Organize your SSH connections and terminal workspace, with redesigned snippets, updates, and a more compact sidebar.

Changes

  • Group saved SSH connections, collapse groups, and drag connections between them. Move to group… provides an alternative and supports new group names; Undo restores the previous group.
  • Drag to reorder SSH groups and servers within a group. Their order is saved on this Mac. Moving and reordering preserve connection credentials and running sessions.
  • Reorder terminal tabs across the top or through the sidebar; both views stay in sync without restarting sessions. Option+Shift+Arrow keys also support reordering.
  • Redesigned Command snippets with a searchable library, command previews, saved/unsaved status, Command-S, and protection against losing unsaved edits when switching or closing.
  • New Updates dialog with installed version, release notes for available updates, download guidance, and links to EDITH, Dum-E, and u.
  • Connection notifications now float at the bottom right, with status icons and automatic dismissal. Hovering or keyboard focus pauses dismissal; errors remain until dismissed.
  • Compact sidebar tools combine Snippets and Help. Removed decorative footer text and terminal tab number prefixes. Command-1–9 still selects tabs by their current position. The collapsed sidebar uses ServerPlus for adding SSH connections.

Install

Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13.5 or later. Download the DMG and drag Ultron into Applications.

Save terminal work and quit Ultron before replacing the app. Running sessions, tab order, and pane layouts are not restored after quitting. Saved SSH profiles, group/server order, snippets, and preferences remain on this Mac.

This alpha is ad-hoc signed and is not notarized by Apple. macOS Gatekeeper may block the download. Developer ID signing, notarization, Intel Macs, and independent testing on other Macs are still pending. See the project README for build-from-source instructions.

Validation

  • 20 frontend/model tests and 15 native tests passed.
  • Isolated local SSH integration passed.
  • TypeScript, formatting, production web build, macOS app/DMG build, and bundle/DMG integrity checks passed locally.
  • The changed UI flows were checked in isolated preview apps and browser test fixtures.

The optional interactive Keychain suite was not rerun for this release; this update does not change SSH authentication. Native tests verify that group moves and reordering preserve credential metadata.

Ultron v0.1.0-alpha.3

@duckfollow duckfollow released this 27 Oct 16:15

Ultron v0.1.0-alpha.3

This alpha improves SSH sign-in and pane/sidebar controls, and fixes process-table scrolling in Utop.

Changes

  • Pane swapping now offers an explicit destination, highlighted target panes, and Cancel / Escape. Dragging pane headers still works.
  • SSH host confirmation now displays typed yes when Remember password is enabled. Passwords and OTPs remain hidden.
  • SSH settings explain Keychain access, distinguish the server password from the Mac login password, and show a waiting state during save operations.
  • Connection hover and keyboard focus cover the full row, including the menu button. Collapsed sidebar controls have separate connection and menu targets.
  • Workspace rows share consistent hover and selected states. Tab and workspace settings dots have been removed; double-click or right-click to rename or change color.
  • Utop process rows scroll in a separate clipped body beneath the header, preventing text from appearing above it.

Install

Apple Silicon Macs, macOS 13.5 or later. Download the DMG and drag Ultron into Applications. Save terminal work before quitting to upgrade; running sessions and pane layouts are not restored.

This build is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple notarized. Saved SSH profiles, snippets, and preferences remain in the existing app data location. macOS may request Keychain permission for the updated build.

Validation

17 frontend tests, 11 native tests, isolated SSH integration, TypeScript, formatting, production app/DMG build, and bundle/DMG integrity checks passed locally. UI changes were checked in an isolated preview app.

The optional Keychain integration suite was attempted but timed out during a saved-password connection (15-second fixture timeout). Keychain-backed sign-in is not fully revalidated for this release; manual password SSH passed.

@duckfollow duckfollow released this 26 Oct 16:52

Ultron v0.1.0-alpha.2

This Alpha adds Utop local system monitoring, reusable command snippets, and GitHub Release update notifications.

What’s new

  • Utop local monitor: btop-inspired CPU/core graphs, RAM/swap, per-interface network rates, mounted disk capacity, and searchable/sortable processes. Shows the machine running Ultron, including beside SSH terminals. Read only; no process termination or remote monitoring.
  • Utop split panes: the activity icon in the top-right corner offers a new tab, left/right split, or top/bottom split. Mix Utop with local and SSH terminals, resize dividers, drag pane headers to swap positions, or use the Swap button. Existing session IDs and monitor history are preserved during layout changes. Closing a monitor pane keeps neighboring terminals running.
  • Responsive monitoring: Utop adapts to each pane’s width, with scrolling in smaller panes. Choose 1s, 2s, or 5s sampling; pause/resume; retain up to 2 minutes of graphs in memory. Inactive workspace tabs and hidden pages stop polling. CPU/network rates warm up over two samples; unavailable process values appear as —.
  • Command snippets: save named commands on this device, search, edit, copy, delete, and insert into the active terminal pane. Insert pastes at the cursor without sending Enter. Multiline insertion requires bracketed paste; control sequences are rejected. Snippets persist across app launches.
  • Check for updates: version and manual update checks in the sidebar, automatic daily checks against public GitHub Releases, and Download/Later actions. Download opens the release page; installation remains manual. Preview builds receive newer preview and stable versions; stable builds receive stable versions only.

Download and install

  • Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 13.5 or later.
  • Download Ultron_0.1.0-alpha.2_aarch64.dmg, open it, and drag Ultron into Applications.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt, LICENSE, and updated THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt are attached.
  • The complete app bundle is ad-hoc signed and passes strict integrity verification. It is not Developer ID signed or notarized by Apple, so Gatekeeper may block a downloaded build. Independent installation testing on another Mac remains pending. Intel Macs, Windows, and Linux are not validated.

Data and limits

  • Saved SSH profiles and existing app preferences are retained. Password handling remains in macOS Keychain.
  • Sessions and pane layouts are not restored after quitting. Save work before restarting Ultron. Saved snippets and SSH profiles persist.
  • Up to 4 panes per tab and 12 panes per workspace, including Utop panes.
  • Utop always reports the local machine. A process can exceed 100% CPU because 100% represents one logical core; total CPU stays within 0–100%. APFS volume capacities can be shared and are not summed. The process table displays the first 200 matches after sorting/filtering.
  • Monitor history is transient. Update checks send the app version, not commands, terminal output, or SSH profile details. No SCP/SFTP controls are included.

Validation

  • 17 frontend tests passed, including mixed pane swapping, snippets, and monitor history/sorting.
  • 11 native unit/PTY/local-monitor tests passed.
  • The isolated SSH integration test passed separately.
  • TypeScript, production frontend, native arm64 app/DMG build, strict app-bundle signature verification, and DMG integrity verification passed locally.
  • Mixed Utop/terminal splits, pane resizing/swapping/closing, and keyboard focus switching were checked in a separate local preview app. The optional Keychain integration suite was not rerun for this release.
