Agent Backbone 0.4.0
Agent Backbone 0.4.0 adds retained Documents, Responses and editable Sheets, current plans, and conversations attached to artifacts. It also improves runtime discovery, delivery reliability and local control boundaries.
Install or update:
uv tool install --upgrade agent-backboneRequires Python 3.11+, tmux, and macOS or Linux. Agent runtimes use their existing local installations and authentication.
For application installers, this release includes the versioned setup schema, finite initialization and first-agent actions, and the optional private Unix-socket API transport. Read installer setup and private local transport. Initialization preserves existing installation settings. The Unix socket remains opt-in; a single installer command may configure a newly created installation through multiple internal steps. Recover pending setup with its original provider before upgrading; schema version equality alone does not guarantee cross-version replay.
Validation includes Python 3.11–3.13 CI, independent review, clean wheel/source installations and private initialization, replay and authenticated socket checks. Those private checks do not claim actual login-service or natural first-agent acceptance on every platform. This publication distributes the Python package, not a self-contained portable binary bundle.
Known limitation: #510 remains open. Legacy numeric hook offers can outlive their queue rows and become ambiguous if an ID is reused; the operation-bound migration is deferred. Existing runtime capability gaps and the documented remote-approval limitation remain explicit in the capability contract.
