Early's first public release: a native macOS browser built with Swift, SwiftUI and WebKit, with vertical tabs, Spaces and a command bar. It's early, so expect rough edges and keep another browser around for important work.

Highlights

  • Command bar: press ⌘T to search or go anywhere. It finds open tabs, pins, Favorites, history and browser commands. Choose Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Ecosia, Brave Search or Kagi.
  • A sidebar for your tabs: Favorites at the top, pinned tabs in nested folders, and Today tabs for everything else.
  • Spaces and profiles: a Space for each part of your day, and profiles that keep cookies, logins and website data separate.
  • Browse your way: split view, a tab switcher (⌃Tab), Picture in Picture, Reader, translation, and downloads in the sidebar.
  • Passwords: saves and fills sign-ins, suggests strong passwords, and imports from Chrome, Safari, Firefox, 1Password and Bitwarden.
  • Extensions: Safari Web Extensions on macOS 15.4 and later.
  • Privacy: private windows, per-site permissions, and history and website data you can clear.
  • Make it yours: custom keyboard shortcuts, export and import of your setup, and Early as your default browser.
  • Updates itself: Early checks for new versions and installs them when you agree.

Install

  • Homebrew: brew install --cask earlybrowser/tap/early
  • Download: Early-0.1.0.zip below. Check it with shasum -a 256 Early-0.1.0.zip against SHA256SUMS, then move Early to Applications.

Early needs a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later.

Early isn't notarized by Apple yet, so the first time you open a downloaded copy, macOS blocks it. Open it once, then choose Open Anyway in System Settings › Privacy & Security, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Early.app. Homebrew does this for you. Updates after that install from inside Early.

Known limitations

We're working on these and will fix them as soon as we can.

  • Not notarized yet, so macOS asks you to allow Early the first time.
  • macOS asks once after each update before Early can open your saved passwords. Choose Always Allow.
  • No passkeys yet.
  • Apple Silicon only.
  • Safari Web Extensions only; no Chrome Web Store.
  • Local files you opened don't reopen after Early restarts.
