v1.4 — faster downloads (aria2)

Choose a tag to compare

@elhajahmadj elhajahmadj released this 02 Nov 07:22

New

  • Optional aria2 acceleration. If aria2 is installed, both installers now use it automatically (16 parallel connections, resumable) for much faster downloads of the big files — a real difference on the ~85 GB full build. Falls back to curl when aria2 isn't present, or force it with -NoAria / --no-aria.

v1.3 — macOS/Linux fixes + region aliases

@elhajahmadj elhajahmadj released this 02 Nov 07:03

Reliability release, largely from field reports by contributors running the Bash installer on macOS and Linux.

Fixes

  • ZIM archives now work on macOS/Linux — the listing curl calls were missing -L, so every Kiwix archive silently came back 'not found'. Fixed. Independently found by @boostedchaos (macOS test report) and @xtalax (Arch Linux run, PR #5).
  • curl … | bash now prompts correctly — it was reading its own script text as the save path; it now reads from the terminal. Reported/fixed by @boostedchaos (PR #7).
  • Wikipedia is now Kiwix-readable — ships the wikipedia_en_all_nopic ZIM (~49 GB) instead of a raw .xml.bz2 dump you couldn't open in Kiwix. Reported/fixed by @boostedchaos (PR #8).
  • Medical PDFs — dropped borrow-only Internet Archive items that returned 401 error pages; now uses freely-downloadable copies, with -f + %PDF validation so bad downloads are never saved.
  • Garbled em-dashes in some HTML guides fixed (UTF-8 handling).

New

  • Country/ISO region aliases — -Region/--region accepts UK, USA, GBR, DEU, FRA, JPN, UAE, Holland, Czech, … and maps them to the correct OsmAnd name.

Defaults unchanged. Full credits in the CHANGELOG. Verify downloads with SHA256SUMS.txt (attached).

v1.2 — Education: Khan Academy + Kolibri (opt-in)

Choose a tag to compare

@elhajahmadj elhajahmadj released this 02 Nov 01:39

New in v1.2 — offline learning (both opt-in, off by default)

  • --education / -Education — adds the Khan Academy archive (Kiwix ZIM, ~168 GB incl. video). Language via --edu-lang/-EduLang (en/es/fr).
  • --kolibri / -Kolibri — adds the Kolibri learning app so you can pick subjects and video quality and keep it to tens of GB. Bundles the Windows/macOS/Linux installers + Android APK and a HOW-TO-KOLIBRI guide.

Use either or both. Defaults are unchanged — the installer still asks only where to save, maps still default to US, and neither education option is included unless you ask.

Install

  • Windows: irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/elhajahmadj/offline-emergency-library/main/Get-OfflineLibrary.ps1 | iex
  • macOS / Linux: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/elhajahmadj/offline-emergency-library/main/get-offline-library.sh | bash

Verify downloads with SHA256SUMS.txt (attached). See README for storage/hardware and the full options list.

v1.1 — Map regions + root index

Choose a tag to compare

@elhajahmadj elhajahmadj released this 01 Nov 22:21

New in v1.1

  • Choose your map region. Maps default to the US, but you can now pick any country, continent, sub-region, or the whole world:
    • -Region France / --region "Germany,Austria" / --region Europe / --region US_texas / --region world
  • Region discovery: -ListRegions / --list-regions [filter] lists available regions and exits (no download).
  • Size guardrail: the installer prints the resolved map size and warns before very large downloads.
  • Root index: installers now generate a README.html at the download root — a clickable index of every guide, document, manual, archive, app and data file.
  • Fix: exclude road-only map variants so counts/sizes are correct.

Install

  • Windows: irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/elhajahmadj/offline-emergency-library/main/Get-OfflineLibrary.ps1 | iex
  • macOS / Linux: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/elhajahmadj/offline-emergency-library/main/get-offline-library.sh | bash

Default is still the US and the installer asks only where to save. See README for region examples and storage/hardware requirements.
