OpenXLR 0.5.1 switches a microphone's sound card to a profile with its input when it is set to output only, saves over a profile from its row, and lets each Stream Deck+ dial choose its step.

Daemon

  • A Wave XLR whose sound card was set to an output-only profile, such as Analog Stereo Output, had no input at all. OpenXLR still drove the unit and built the mixer, so the UI looked fine while XLR 1 recorded nothing. The daemon now watches the card of every interface it drives. When the card's profile plays but has no input, it switches once to a profile on the same card that adds one, and logs both names.
  • If no such profile exists, the switch fails, or the card is set back to output only, the daemon leaves it alone and says so in the device warning, with a Manual button beside it. After the first two minutes it looks again every 30 seconds, so the warning clears once the profile is fixed. The Wave XLR Pro keeps its own Pro Audio handling and is never switched.
  • The state carries cardProfile for each interface, and the diagnostics archive names each card's profile and whether it has an input.

UI and plugin

  • Each row in the Profiles list has a Save button that saves the current setup over that profile, without typing its name. It asks first, the same way typing an existing name does. The row's delete button now asks too, where it used to delete at once.
  • A Stream Deck+ dial has Step per tick in its settings: Default, 1, 3, 5 or 10. Gain, Line In, headphones and Aux In move in dB, faders and the crossfade in percentage points. Default keeps the steps the dials had before. EQ and plugin controls keep their own steps.
  • Dial turns still waiting to be sent when the daemon disconnects are dropped. A gain reset to 10 dB while the daemon restarted could jump to 43 dB on the first turn, because the dial still counted from its old value.

Project

The companion bridge is unchanged at openxlr-yabridge 5.1.1.54 revision 3. Its README now explains that 5.1.1.54 is a fixed label. The browser companion is openxlr-browser-0.5.1.tar.gz and the Flatpak bundle is openxlr-0.5.1-x86_64.flatpak.

Upgrade note

  • Restart the daemon and reopen the UI after upgrading: systemctl --user restart openxlr-daemon.
  • Restart OpenDeck so it loads the new plugin.

Install

Packages exist for Arch Linux, CachyOS and Omarchy (AUR), Ubuntu (PPA), Fedora (COPR) and NixOS (flake); this release also carries a .deb and an .rpm for a manual install, with checksum files and a build provenance attestation.

Arch Linux, CachyOS and Omarchy, from the AUR:

yay -S openxlr # or: paru -S openxlr
systemctl --user enable --now openxlr-daemon
openxlr # the mixer UI, also in your application menu

On Omarchy, a package built there also carries the bar plugin. Run openxlr-omarchy-enable once to link and enable it.

Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04, from the PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sparvoli/openxlr
sudo apt install openxlr
systemctl --user enable --now openxlr-daemon
openxlr

Fedora 44 or newer, from the COPR repository:

sudo dnf copr enable emaspa/openxlr
sudo dnf install openxlr
systemctl --user enable --now openxlr-daemon
openxlr

NixOS: the flake's package and module, described in the README.

Replug the interface once after installing so the udev rule applies. The Stream Deck plugin is the zip on this release, for OpenDeck's install-from-file, and the browser companion is the openxlr-browser tar.gz. Building from source is covered in docs/install-from-source.md.
