Citibike Trip Data

Overview

  • This analysis was performed to see if Des Moines is a good place for a bike-sharing program.

Results

  • Checkout times.

  • Checkout times by gender.

  • Weekday hour usage. The darker the red, the more frequent CitiBike is used.

  • Weekday hour usage by gender. The darker the red, the more frequent CitiBike is used.

  • Usertype weekday usage of CitiBike. The darker the blue, the more frequent CitiBike is used.

  • Bike usage and repair. The darker the blue the more the bike has been used, thus the more likely it is in need of repair.

  • Gender usage of CitiBike.

Summary

  • There was a trend of bike users utilizing CitiBike between 7 AM - 9 AM and between 5 PM - 7 PM. These users may be using this service to commute to work.

  • Most subscribers are male.

  • Most bike users are male.

  • Majority of start and end locations are in Manhattan, possibly due to tourists.

Suggestions

  • It is suggested analyzing data for bike usage over the months.

  • New York City has bike lanes, it is suggested that the Des Moines streets are assessed on if they are bike-friendly or not.

  • It is important to take into account that New York City is relatively compact. The average distance of Des Moines workers to their job may be larger than that of New York City which may affect bike usage.
