Boards with Macronix flash can keep patterns now. Pattern Lab has text layers, /build lets you pick a case, and a lot of the code underneath was tidied.

Firmware

  • A board with Macronix flash mounts its pattern storage. On those boards (flash-id manufacturer c2) a Format did not stick and only the built-in pattern ran (#424). The firmware now reads that chip in a mode it answers correctly. Found and fixed by @didusee in #519. Other chips are untouched. If your board is one of these and ran an earlier version, press Format once after updating.
  • The panel driver takes upstream's fix for its config constructor.
  • The MIDI page counts 24 detents a turn, as the encoder has.

Pattern Lab

  • Text layers. Type a line, set its font and colour, and let it scroll or twinkle at the speed of a knob. It goes to the panel like any other layer.
  • Code layers follow the knobs, phones get stacked panels, and dialogs and menus behave on touch and with Esc.
  • The AI gallery and the Gemini key are gone.

Build

  • /build lets you pick the case, and the 3D view shows the one you picked.
  • Two printed remixes join the case files: Besoiobiy's and Mykyta Bilous' horizontal desktop case (#488).

Site

  • The home page plays the new film, and a click on it opens the film on YouTube.

Community

  • The workshop is gone, and the atlas is a read-only archive reached from the footer.
  • Many fixes for phones, screen readers and slow connections.

Underneath

  • The numbers the firmware and the site share (panel sizes, the 24 detents a turn, button timings) live in one file.
  • The REST, OSC, MIDI, MQTT and audio contracts have test vectors, replayed against a virtual panel on every pull request.
  • The drift checks run in CI, the site's dependencies are on their latest releases inside the current majors, and the docs were cleaned up.

Updating

  • Standard firmware: the notice on the console's home page, or patternflow.work/update.
  • Audio: patternflow.work/editions, the Audio card, Install to my panel; or drop patternflow-audio.ino.bin from this release on the panel's Update page.
  • Reflashing keeps your patterns, your Wi-Fi and your settings.

Editions

Audio v0.7.1 is cut on this core. Performance v0.4.0 stays on the shelf until its maintainer re-cuts it, and until then it does not have the Macronix fix.
