eirl-encoder 0.13.0

@pmorillas pmorillas released this 29 Oct 10:32
  • New: if you forget the web password, set a new one with the setup code. On the web, "Forgot the password?" when signing in; the code is on the screen, in Settings › Device › Name & password, behind the eye. From the screen you can also set a new one without the code. Changing it closes every web session.
  • Safer: the web asks for its password to link the encoder to EnhancedIRL and to unlink it, and someone else's failed attempts on your network no longer lock you out if you had signed in before.
  • Safer: the file with the web password is readable only by the encoder's app, and an EnhancedIRL account can only set its relays as the destination.

  • New: local recording to a USB disk. The encoder saves the program (what goes on air, with its audio) to a USB stick or disk, at high quality (25 Mbps by default) and apart from the stream: if the connection drops, the recording goes on. Set it up on the screen, in Settings › Stream › Recording, or in the web's "Recording" card.
  • Three modes: Off (as before), Independent (REC records or stops, live or not) and With the stream (Go live also records, and Stop streaming ends both).
  • Disks in exFAT, FAT32 (recordings are split into 3.9 GB files) or ext4. The encoder can format a disk as exFAT. Each recording is an MP4 file in the EnhancedIRL folder.
  • Plug the disk in before going live, and press Eject before unplugging it. A 2.5" hard disk only through a USB hub with its own power supply: without one, it can cut the encoder's power.
  • After a power cut the recording stays stopped (the stream does resume), and the file is repaired when the disk is plugged in again.

eirl-encoder 0.11.1

  • Fixed: an iPhone plugged in by cable never gave the encoder an internet connection (0.8.0 SD card image and version 0.11.0). If it was plugged in when you updated, unplug it and plug it back in.

  • Updates now also bring what used to come only by writing the card with a new image: drivers, firmware and system packages. To get what is new, updating is enough; there is no need to write the card again.
  • That is why the iPhone by cable now also comes with an update, not only with the 0.8.0 SD card image.
  • Fixed: since 0.7.0, updating failed with "the update package is not valid". This version installs from any earlier version.
  • If part of an update only takes effect after a restart, the encoder says so and lets you restart it from Settings or from the web (never while streaming).
  • If the encoder reaches the internet through a modem or a phone, the update waits for Wi-Fi or a cable to download by itself. If you check for it, it downloads right away over mobile data.

  • A USB HDMI capture card with nothing connected, or with its source switched off, now shows the "NO SIGNAL" card, like the encoder's HDMI input, instead of a black picture. When the source is connected, its picture comes back by itself within a few seconds.
  • With the most common USB 2.0 capture cards (MS2109 chip) it is known within a second or two. With the others, the encoder tells it from the picture: the same still, nearly plain picture (black, blue or with a small notice) for 5 seconds. So if your HDMI source really shows a still black screen (a console loading, for example), the card also appears until the picture changes.

  • Sturdier streaming over SRTLA: the encoder shares the stream among its connections with a new sender, which sends fewer retransmissions, sets aside only a connection that stalls and copes better with a connection that drops and comes back. For whoever streams, the latency is the same.
  • In Settings › Streaming › Connections, on the screen and on the web page, each connection in use now shows its delay (RTT) and its losses (NAKs per second), and says when the encoder is setting it aside.
  • The default SRT latency of a new destination is now 2 seconds, with SRT too (before, 0.2 s): on mobile networks a short latency cuts the stream. If you chose it yourself, it does not change.
  • Smaller packets (1,128 bytes): some mobile networks and phones sharing their data break big packets.
  • If the relay's name does not resolve (DNS), the encoder uses its last good address and keeps streaming, instead of waiting for it to come back.

@pmorillas pmorillas released this 19 Oct 13:29
  • iPhone by cable: plug an iPhone into the encoder over USB, unlock it, answer Trust to "Trust This Computer?" and turn on Personal Hotspot. The encoder uses it as one more internet connection, SRTLA included, and next time it comes back without asking.
  • It comes with the 0.8.0 SD card image: updating from an earlier version does not add it. To get it, write the card with that image, which starts from scratch (the initial setup runs again).
  • This is a first version: if something does not work, let us know.

  • Bluetooth: if the encoder has a Bluetooth adapter (for example a USB one such as the TP-Link UB500), in Settings › Wireless › Bluetooth on the touch screen or on the web page you can connect headphones or a speaker to listen to the program (the monitor moves to them by itself and comes back to the screen when they disconnect), and use a headset's microphone (phone quality) or a phone as one more audio input.
  • It comes switched off, and a phone can only find the encoder during the 2 minutes you make it visible.
  • This is a first version: if something does not work, let us know.

@pmorillas pmorillas released this 15 Oct 10:54
  • The touch screen no longer loses the signal when the encoder restarts (after an update, or when you save a destination): it stays black for a few seconds, without the screen's «no signal» message, and comes back by itself.

  • USB cameras can be plugged in and unplugged while the encoder runs: a new camera shows up by itself in a free source within a couple of seconds and, when it is unplugged, its source is freed (and goes black) a few seconds later. Plug it in again and it goes back to the same source. If it is on air, it stays with the «NO SIGNAL» card until you put another one on air.
  • You can have more cameras connected than sources: they all appear in Settings › Sources, and there you choose which ones take the four. A camera's microphone is only used while that camera has a source.
  • The encoder now drives its own fan: it starts earlier and speeds up with the temperature, so the board runs cooler (about 40 °C idle).
