Highlights

Menu bar CPU fix. On macOS 26 and later the status item could spend a full core redrawing itself while idle. Cortex now updates the menu bar only when its content actually changes, so the app sits near 0% CPU between refreshes.

cortex:// URL scheme. Scripts and agents can drive the running app:

open "cortex://open/live" # open a page
open "cortex://open/settings/menu-bar" # open a Settings tab
open "cortex://settings?live-activity=on&confetti=off" # flip preferences

Preference keys: live-activity, completion-sound, awaiting-sound, confetti, menu-bar, discover. Each link reports what changed in a toast.

Discover is hidden by default. The community catalog (the one feature that contacts GitHub) stays out of the sidebar, the command palette, and Practice links until you turn on its Show toggle in Settings > Sidebar.

Also

  • Running claude processes and port owners are resolved through libproc instead of pgrep and lsof subprocesses, and a scan still in progress is never overlapped by the next tick.
  • Concurrent full session loads are coalesced, and the interaction-signal scan is faster.
  • Tested through macOS 27.

Install

Download Cortex.dmg, drag Cortex to Applications, then right-click > Open the first time (the build is not notarized). Requires macOS 15 or newer.
