In order for

conda install cnvkit

to work, one need to need to add the channel where cnvkit is hosted, i.e.

conda config --add channels https://conda.binstar.org/bcbio

I recommend adding this to README.rst, because (at least to me) it took a fair bit of trial and error to get it working.

(Also, it seems like Anaconda installs python as well, so it's not clear to me whether you have to have Python 2.7 installed prior to installing Anaconda + cnvkit.)

Does conda install cnvkit -c https://conda.binstar.org/bcbio also work?

Anaconda and Miniconda will both apparently install Python 2.7 on their
own. The way this works and interacts with existing installations is a
little mystical to me. But I suppose it's not necessary to install Python
2.7 separately if you go the conda route.

Using the -c option probably works as well, but the advantage with setting the channel permanently is that running conda later will look for updates in that channel as well, which I don't think will happen when you use -c. (That's just an intelligent guess - I'm new to *conda)

Makes sense to me. I added the config step to README.
