ScreenLocalizer 1.0.1 — permissions survive updates
What's new in 1.0.1
Mac app 1.0.1
- Permissions now survive updates. From this version on, updating ScreenLocalizer keeps its Accessibility, Screen Recording and Keychain approvals. Updating from 1.0.0 asks one last time.
- New "Reset Permissions & Try Again" button (Settings → Permissions, and on the welcome screen). It clears ScreenLocalizer's own outdated permission entries and asks again. Use it if the shortcut or the screen box stops working after an update.
- If macOS shows ScreenLocalizer more than once in a permission list, remove the extra entries with −.
Browser extension: unchanged (1.1.0). It's included here, so this release has both downloads.

Updating the Mac app: quit ScreenLocalizer, drag the new app onto Applications and choose Replace, then open it. If macOS asks whether ScreenLocalizer may use your saved key, click Always Allow.

The first public release of ScreenLocalizer: select any text, or any part of your screen, and read it translated, explained, simplified or summarized in your language.

You also need an OpenAI API key. The step-by-step guide shows how to get one in about 5 minutes.
First launch on Mac: macOS will say it "could not verify" the app, because it isn't signed with a paid Apple certificate yet. Click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. You only do this once. Full guide: English · العربية
✨ What's inside
Mac app (new)
- Works in every app:
⌃⌥Ton selected text,⌃⌥Oto read text from any part of the screen (on-device OCR),⌃⌥Vpaste box, a floating «Translate / Explain» button, and an optional "when I copy text" action. - Modes: Translate, Explain, Simplify, Summarize, Video Script, Social Post, plus follow-up questions.
- Private mode: the result panel is hidden from screenshots and screen recordings by default. You can read the Arabic while you record.
- Side-by-side view, adjustable text size, read aloud, history with Markdown export, and a glossary.
- OpenAI or any OpenAI-compatible service (OpenRouter, Groq, Ollama, LM Studio). Keys are stored in the macOS Keychain.
- English and Arabic interface (fully right-to-left).
Browser extension 1.1.0
- Defaults to
gpt-5-miniand handles newer models automatically. - Small fix to the settings page.
