LOKA 0.9.2

Choose a tag to compare

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 31 Oct 07:57

New

  • The phone tells you about new versions. The Android app now shows what's new when a newer LOKA is out, and Download fetches the new APK straight to the phone.

Fixes

  • LOKA keeps working when its window is minimized or closed to the tray. Windows 11 slows down apps it thinks you aren't using, and macOS puts them to sleep (App Nap); LOKA now opts out of both, so crossing the edge, typing on the other device and file drops work the same with the window out of sight.

Windows: run LOKA_0.9.2_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi), or click Update now when LOKA offers it. If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.9.2_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications, or click Update now when LOKA offers it. First launch: click Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (macOS 14 and older: right-click → Open). If it says "damaged", run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/LOKA.app. Allow Accessibility and Local Network. After updating: remove LOKA from the Accessibility list with − and turn it on again.
Linux: LOKA_0.9.2_amd64.deb (Debian, Ubuntu), LOKA-0.9.2-1.x86_64.rpm (Fedora) or LOKA_0.9.2_amd64.AppImage. Then About → Allow input access. Without a desktop: sudo loka --headless.
Android: install LOKA_0.9.2_android.apk over the old one (allow installing from your browser when asked); pairing and setup stay.

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 31 Oct 07:22

Fixes

  • Android: typing keeps working. When the phone restarted Wireless debugging (after a Wi-Fi change, or when the phone turned it off and on), LOKA's input on the phone stopped and didn't come back. The computer's cursor still moved onto the phone, but clicks and typing did nothing. LOKA now restarts it by itself within a few seconds, and turns Wireless debugging back on if needed.
  • Android: the number pad types. Keypad digits, + − × ÷, the decimal point and Num Lock now work on the phone.

Windows: run LOKA_0.9.1_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi), or click Update now when LOKA offers it. If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.9.1_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications, or click Update now when LOKA offers it.
Linux: LOKA_0.9.1_amd64.deb (Debian, Ubuntu), LOKA-0.9.1-1.x86_64.rpm (Fedora) or LOKA_0.9.1_amd64.AppImage. Then About → Allow input access. Without a desktop: sudo loka --headless.
Android: install LOKA_0.9.1_android.apk over the old one (allow installing from your browser when asked); pairing and setup stay.

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 31 Oct 04:16

New

  • Android phones (Android 11+). Push your computer's cursor off the edge where the phone sits and it lands on the phone: tap, scroll and type there with the computer's mouse and keyboard. Right button = Back, middle = Home, and the screen wakes when the cursor arrives. LOKA sets this up from the phone itself through Wireless debugging (Developer options → Wireless debugging → pairing code typed into LOKA's notification), no cable or PC tools. The phone can also be a touchpad and keyboard for the computer, and send files to it. Still being tested on real phones; tell us how yours does.
  • LOKA updates itself. From this version on, Oka pops up when a new version is out, shows what's new, and installs it with one click (Windows, macOS, Linux). Every update is signed and checked before it installs.
  • Glow your way. Thickness slider, and Show: When near hides the glowing edge until the cursor comes close.
  • Right-click a device for its menu: Control, Send files…, Take off screens, Unpair (Wake up / Forget when it's offline).

Fixes

  • Unpair now forgets on both sides. Before, the other device kept the pairing and its glowing edge stayed.
  • The "Couldn't move over" message stays on top of the page, closes with ×, and goes away by itself.
  • A long device name no longer runs into the edge buttons.
  • Phones show up under the name set in Settings › About phone, not a model code.

Windows: run LOKA_0.9.0_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.9.0_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications. First launch: click Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (macOS 14 and older: right-click → Open). If it says "damaged", run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/LOKA.app. Allow Accessibility and Local Network. Updating from an older LOKA: remove it from the Accessibility list with − and turn it on again.
Linux: LOKA_0.9.0_amd64.deb (Debian, Ubuntu), LOKA-0.9.0-1.x86_64.rpm (Fedora) or LOKA_0.9.0_amd64.AppImage. Then About → Allow input access. Without a desktop: sudo loka --headless.
Android: install LOKA_0.9.0_android.apk on the phone (allow installing from your browser when asked), pair with a computer, then tap Set up.

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 15:53

Fixes

  • A Mac shows up under its own name (as set in System Settings) instead of "LOKA". Already paired? It keeps the old name until you pair again.
  • When the cursor can't move over (the other device isn't reachable, refuses, or Accessibility is off), a notification tells you why. Before, the reason only showed in the LOKA window.
  • About → Allow through Windows Firewall now remembers: it shows "Allowed" after a restart. It also removes a rule that blocks LOKA (left over when the first firewall prompt was cancelled) and old duplicates.
  • The glowing edge of a device that's offline fades, so you can see which doorway leads nowhere right now.

Can't move from a Mac to a Windows PC, or the PC lists the Mac as offline? On the PC: About → Allow through Windows Firewall.

Windows: run LOKA_0.8.1_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.8.1_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.
Linux: LOKA_0.8.1_amd64.deb (Debian, Ubuntu), LOKA-0.8.1-1.x86_64.rpm (Fedora) or LOKA_0.8.1_amd64.AppImage. Then About → Allow input access. Without a desktop: sudo loka --headless.

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 08:36

New

  • Screen layout: your screens as they're arranged, with every device as a box beside the edge it sits on. Drag one to an edge (it snaps, edges between your own screens and other devices' spots are skipped), slide it along, or drop it below to take it off. Keyboard: arrow keys slide, Delete takes it off.
  • Both sides follow: put a computer on your right and it puts you on its left by itself.
  • Drag a nearby device that isn't paired yet onto your screens to pair it and place it in one go.

Fixes

  • A glowing edge could be drawn on the wrong side of its strip after moving a device right away.
  • Tray Disconnect is only enabled while another device is using this one (while you're using another device, Ctrl+Alt+Esc brings you back).

Both computers need 0.8 for the layout to follow on the other side.

Windows: run LOKA_0.8.0_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.8.0_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 06:59

Fixes

  • Windows: dragging files onto the glowing edge showed a no-entry cursor and nothing was sent. Files can be dropped on the edge, or carried across it, again.

Windows: run LOKA_0.7.1_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.7.1_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 06:19

New: Linux

  • LOKA runs on Linux, on X11 and Wayland desktops. It reads the mouse and keyboard below the desktop, so it needs permission once: About → Allow input access.
  • A Linux server without a desktop can be driven too: run sudo loka --headless on it, pair from another computer and answer the code in the terminal. Your keyboard then types on the server's console.

Windows: run LOKA_0.7.0_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.7.0_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.
Linux: LOKA_0.7.0_amd64.deb (Debian, Ubuntu), LOKA-0.7.0-1.x86_64.rpm (Fedora) or LOKA_0.7.0_amd64.AppImage. Then About → Allow input access. Without a desktop: sudo loka --headless.

LOKA 0.6.4

Choose a tag to compare

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 04:41

Fixes

  • LOKA looks right on Macs with an older Safari (for example macOS Big Sur that never got a Safari update). The window used to show one giant mascot and nothing else.
  • A Mac without the Accessibility permission no longer pulls the other computer's cursor to its edge again and again. It now says what to allow instead.
  • A Windows PC with no mouse plugged in shows its cursor while another device drives it. Windows hides the cursor when it finds no mouse.

New

  • The first time a device crosses over to this one, LOKA places the glow back to it on the edge the cursor came in through. You can still move it in Calibrate.

Windows: run LOKA_0.6.4_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.6.4_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.

LOKA 0.6.3

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 01:58

Fixes

  • The changelog in About scrolls again. A long list of releases used to run past the bottom of the window with no way to reach it.
  • About now opens below the title bar, so its Close button is never hidden under it.

Windows: run LOKA_0.6.3_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.6.3_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.

LOKA 0.6.2

Choose a tag to compare

@fanrsd fanrsd released this 30 Oct 01:38

Fixes

  • The glow is back to life: the ripple, the splash when the cursor crosses, the fill while files travel and colour changes all show again. Since 0.4.0 the glow of a placed device never heard from LOKA, so it stayed a still line.
  • Moving the glow to another edge now moves the line too. Before, a glow moved to the left edge could still be drawn on its window's right side, a few centimetres away from the screen edge.
  • A glow on an edge between two screens with different scaling (125 % next to 100 %) is drawn on the right screen and at the right size.
  • Crossing feels quicker: the cursor goes over first and the clipboard follows, so a picture on the clipboard no longer holds the cursor at the edge.
  • On a Mac, the cursor crosses through the right and bottom edges even when it stops a pixel short of them.

New

  • LOKA has its own title bar on Windows, with the minimize, maximize and close buttons where you expect them. A Mac keeps its traffic lights.
  • Every click in LOKA makes a soft tick. The speaker in the top-right corner mutes it.

Windows: run LOKA_0.6.2_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi). If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway. Quit the running LOKA from its tray icon first.
macOS: open LOKA_0.6.2_universal.dmg and drag LOKA to Applications.
