v0.4.0 — 1 November 2026

The standalone Rust CLI and MCP server now provide 42 tools across 20
server-side Google API products
. The nine-language manual documents 329
parameter paths
, including defaults, nested fields, authentication and service
restrictions. CLI, MCP stdio and Streamable HTTP share the same implementations.

New tools

Nineteen additions extend the previous 23-tool catalog:

  • Places and geography: Autocomplete (New), radio/WiFi Geolocation, restricted
Roads Speed Limits, Solar building insights/data layers/GeoTIFF, and separate
Aerial View lookup and render tools.
  • Imagery: Map Tiles sessions and 2D/3D/Street View resources, Street View
Static, and Street View Publish photo/sequence operations.
  • Cloud resources: Maps Datasets and Route Optimization, including native
payloads, explicit pagination and asynchronous job status.
  • Local conditions: Air Quality forecast/history/heatmaps, Pollen heatmaps,
Weather history/public alerts, and experimental minute forecasts/weather maps.

Binary results preserve MIME and cache metadata. MCP displays supported images;
CLI --output saves original bytes. Autocomplete session tokens can also be
passed to the concluding Place Details or Address Validation call.

Route geometry and traffic

  • Directions and route planning accept independent polylineQuality selection:
OVERVIEW or HIGH_QUALITY, also exposed as --polyline-quality. Ordinary calls
retain Google's overview default; traffic calls default to high quality. An
explicit quality overrides either default. Geometry is preserved without
    interpolation.
  • Opt-in trafficSegments: true / --traffic-segments returns native traffic
categories with normalized segments and availability/provenance metadata.
Route and leg indices refer to their respective polylines. Gaps and missing
categories remain explicit; missing traffic is never labeled normal.
  • Road category, posted speed limit and provider observation time remain null
    because Routes does not supply them. retrievedAt is the local retrieval time;
requested departure time is recorded separately. No implicit Roads lookup is
    performed.
  • Traffic segments require driving and request Google's Compute Routes
    Enterprise SKU
. Higher geometry quality alone does not request traffic
intervals. Review Google pricing before enabling traffic calculations.

Authentication and provider limits

  • Solar and Map Tiles support API keys or OAuth. Datasets and Route Optimization
require OAuth with appropriate resource-project and quota-project permissions.
  • Street View Publish requires explicit consenting end-user OAuth credentials;
service-account IAM does not replace consent. Media uploads are bounded to
8 MiB; resumable uploads are not implemented.
  • Mutations are advertised conservatively and are not automatically retried.
Native results retain attribution and processing status.
  • Speed Limits requires Google's restricted Asset Tracking entitlement.
Map Tiles is licensed for visualization, not machine interpretation, image
analysis, geodata extraction or offline use. Aerial View supports covered US
locations and prohibits downloading, storing or caching videos.
  • Weather minute forecasts and weather maps are pre-GA, with additional
attribution, caching and usage restrictions. Regional coverage, EEA terms,
billing and quotas continue to apply across services; API enablement alone
does not grant every capability or content right.

Verification

  • 99 offline tests and one doctest passed; 31 live tests remain opt-in and
    ignored by default.
  • One live geometry comparison increased provider points from 267 to 3,110
while preserving the same 56,928 m route distance. A live traffic check
returned 16 route and 16 leg intervals, including normal, slow and jam
categories. These observations are examples, not coverage or accuracy promises.
  • Live checks did not establish universal access: Speed Limits was blocked
by entitlement, Aerial View by API enablement, and Datasets/Route Optimization
by IAM. Publish was not exercised without consenting user credentials; public
writes were not part of smoke testing.

@github-actions github-actions released this 31 Oct 18:38

Complete parameter documentation for all 23 Google Maps tools, available in the
bundled docs/tools.md guide and the docs.rs landing page.

  • Describe each tool’s purpose, parameters and nested object fields, types,
required status, defaults, accepted values, limits and behavioral restrictions.
  • Document response shapes, partial-error handling, authentication dependencies,
    timestamps, units and result/coverage limitations.
  • Provide MCP argument examples and equivalent CLI calls for every tool.
  • Generate parameter tables from the executable’s actual schemas and reviewed
behavior notes. CI checks for stale output and validates examples without
    credentials or Google requests.

Tool behavior is unchanged from v0.3.0. TLS/mTLS, request controls, metrics,
service-account OAuth and the bundled agent skill remain available.

Archives include Linux x86_64 or macOS Apple Silicon/Intel executables,
documentation, deployment examples, the agent skill, configuration example and
licenses. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS. macOS binaries are not notarized
or code-signed.

v0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 31 Oct 12:32

Native HTTPS, production controls and five additional Google Maps tools for the
standalone Rust CLI and MCP server.

  • Add maps_validate_address, maps_pollen, maps_area_insights,
maps_snap_to_roads and maps_nearest_roads, available through CLI, MCP stdio
and Streamable HTTP. There are now 23 tools.
  • Extend Google service-account/ADC OAuth to Address Validation and Places
Aggregate. Pollen and Roads use this executable's configured API key.
  • Add native TLS 1.2/1.3, optional client-certificate authentication, and atomic
SIGHUP reload of certificates, keys and client CAs.
  • Bound Google HTTP attempts per invocation, tool wall time and transient retries.
HTTP rate limiting returns 429 with Retry-After; Prometheus metrics are opt-in
and protected by the HTTP bearer token when configured.
  • Add JSON diagnostic events and offline doctor checks. doctor --live makes
    explicitly opted-in billable API probes.
  • Include production configuration documentation and a Kubernetes TLS Gateway
example; Google service-account OAuth remains separate from inbound MCP auth.
  • Bundle the reusable mcp-gmap agent skill with MCP/CLI usage guidance and
installation instructions; no assistant plugin is required.

The default Google request budget is 200 attempts per tool call, including retries.
The default overall tool deadline is 120 seconds, with up to two transient retries
within the existing 30-second Google request timeout. The default HTTP rate is
120 authenticated MCP requests per minute per process. See the bundled production
guide for overrides, metrics, TLS/mTLS and certificate renewal.

Download the archive for your platform and verify it against SHA256SUMS:

  • macOS Apple Silicon: aarch64-apple-darwin.
  • macOS Intel: x86_64-apple-darwin.

Archives contain the executable, README, changelog, configuration example,
documentation, deployment examples, agent skill and licenses. The source archive
and Cargo package also include the Dockerfile. Discovery/help require no Google credentials.
The macOS binaries are not notarized or code-signed.

Install this version from crates.io:

cargo install mcp-gmap-rs --version 0.3.0 --locked

All 23 tools passed live API-key checks. Six service-account OAuth scenarios
passed with the API key removed. doctor --live passed probes of all 12 Google
API families used by this version. Ordinary CI uses local API/token fixtures and
synthetic TLS credentials; it makes no live Google calls.

v0.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 31 Oct 00:35

Service-account OAuth, layered configuration and container deployment for the
standalone Rust Google Maps CLI and MCP server.

  • Add OAuth through Google's Rust auth library, supporting service-account JSON
files, Application Default Credentials and workload identity, with cached token
refresh and an explicit quota project.
  • Use OAuth for Places (New), Routes, Weather and Air Quality. Current Geocoding
v3, Elevation, Time Zone and Static Maps endpoints still use an API key; mixed
workflows can use both credential types. OAuth failures never downgrade to a key.
  • Load configuration in order: defaults → optional .env → environment variables
    → CLI flags. Add --env-file, --no-env-file, --auth-mode and environment-based
    HTTP bind/host/origin settings.
  • Add a non-root multi-stage Dockerfile and Kubernetes deployment example, plus
container smoke checks and Kubernetes schema validation in CI.
  • Document Google project billing, API enablement, restricted key creation,
service-account IAM permissions, JSON credentials, ADC and GKE workload identity.

Download the archive for your platform and verify it against SHA256SUMS:

All 18 tools passed earlier API-key live acceptance scenarios. This release's
four live OAuth tests passed against Places, Routes, Weather and Air Quality with
the API key removed. Offline validation covers 36 tests plus a documentation
example. Automated release checks do not require Google credentials.
