Excel macros, fast. FeatherSheet opens an .xlsm with its VBA macro inside, converts it to JavaScript on the fly and runs it. A month-end closing macro over 196,017 sales (cleaning names, fixing dates, computing commissions, highlighting targets, a salesperson ranking and one sheet per region) runs in ~8 seconds; in Excel, the same macro took 25. Everything runs on your machine: no account, no login, no telemetry.

Pre-release. The alpha is planned for 10/30/2026. Keep a copy of important files.

What's new

  • Our own JavaScript engine: macros run on Falcão, the suite's JavaScript engine, written from scratch in Rust. The same macro runs ~4× faster than on the previous engine.
  • A long macro doesn't freeze the window: a button macro shows "Running… N s" and has a Stop button; whatever it wrote is undone if you stop it.
  • A more complete VBA converter: Range.Value with arrays (read and written in blocks), dates, StrConv, RemoveDuplicates, FormatConditions (conditional formatting), On Error Resume Next, multi-area ranges, Worksheets.Add, AutoFit and VBA's date functions.
  • New macro functions: wb.addSheet, wb.deleteSheet, wb.renameSheet and sheet.autoFitColumns.
  • Faster large sheets: writing an array, formatting a whole column and removing duplicates across hundreds of thousands of rows, each with a single Ctrl+Z.

Fixes

  • Cell borders no longer draw a white stripe between neighboring cells (#69).
  • The text "VERDADEIRO"/"FALSO" stays text when opening or pasting (#66).
  • The text of a merged cell stays in place when scrolling sideways (#36).
  • Printing: a single label for each paper size (#35).

Known limitations

  • Inserting or deleting rows/columns is not yet part of Ctrl+Z (#65).
  • In a macro error message, the column points to the start of the expression, not the exact spot; the line is correct.
  • A VBA macro that uses Windows features (CreateObject, Outlook, Declare, files) is marked "not converted" so you can review it in the editor (Alt+F11).
