This one is about the things you only learn by flying somewhere (the phone number of the guy with the fuel card, the circuit nobody tells you about), and about maps that finally all look the same.
New Features
- Aerodrome notes: write down what you'd tell a friend flying there, in two parts. Arrival is for getting in (approach, circuit, runway, radio), On the ground for once you're there (parking, fuel, food, contacts).
- You can write one from any map (tap the aerodrome), from the flight's page (the Route block now has a line per aerodrome) or right after landing, when CLOSE asks "Anything to remember about Grenchen?".
- In flight, notes are read-only and only show their Arrival part: on the aerodrome's card, at the end of the approach briefing and in Divert (which also marks the fields you have a note on).
- Search aerodromes now also looks inside your notes, and shows you the line it found.
- Settings › iCloud & Log › Aerodrome notes has all of them in one list: search, share them all as a text file, or delete them (one at a time or all at once; a deletion also reaches your other devices).
- Your notes stay on your device and in your own iCloud (one small file per aerodrome), and they are never sent to our servers. The dry run doesn't touch them.
- A new card for aerodromes, on every map: the code, the name, the frequencies, your note, and one row of buttons (Chart, Note, Divert in flight, + Route in the route editor). In flight, it switches to the Cockpit's sizes.
Improvements
- Every map now draws the same way: Plan › Map, the Cockpit's MAP, the dry run, the route editor and the coordinate picker. Only the buttons around them differ. It doesn't look like much on its own (that's kind of the point): it is the groundwork for a much bigger change to the maps, coming in the next version. More on that soon..
- Past the edge of the Swiss charts you now get Apple's map instead of a black void (satellite under SWISSIMAGE). Strict offline mode still shows the chart alone.
- Zooming in on Plan › Map or the Cockpit's MAP goes from the ICAO chart to the glider chart, then to the National Map (as the route editor already did).
- Search aerodromes lists the nearest first, whatever matched: the code, the name or your note.
- Names that the data writes in capitals now read as names ("Bressaucourt" instead of "BRESSAUCOURT").
- The Cockpit's map buttons get out of the way while an aerodrome's card is open.
Bug Fixes
- Switching Force ICAO chart in Settings could leave Plan › Map zoomed far past the chart's scale (or on Apple's map alone at the closest zoom).
- At the closest zoom, a few spots without swisstopo tiles (the Clos du Doubs, for one) showed nothing. The next zoom out is drawn there instead.
- In strict offline mode, Apple's map layers no longer fetch OpenAIP's tiles.
Compatibility
- Requires iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later, nothing to migrate. Notes sync between devices on 6.7; a device still on 6.6 simply doesn't see them (and leaves them alone).
