FiberHMM 2.13.4 — Automatic update-available reminder
Automatic "update available" reminder
Every fiberhmm-* command now prints a one-line reminder when a newer release is on PyPI:
[fiberhmm] update available: X.Y.Z (installed A.B.C) -- pip install -U fiberhmm [silence: FIBERHMM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1]
Safety properties
- stderr only — never writes stdout, so a BAM streamed via
-o -is never corrupted. - Throttled — the PyPI lookup runs at most once per day (cached under the user cache dir); the reminder itself still shows on every run while outdated.
- Silent on failure — offline, PyPI down, slow DNS, or an unwritable cache are all silent no-ops; the reminder can never delay or break the tool.
- Opt-out — set
FIBERHMM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1to disable entirely.
Implemented as thin console-script wrappers (fiberhmm.cli._entry) over each tool's real main(), so the reminder reaches every command from one place and the underlying tools are untouched.
pip install -U fiberhmm
