I have several files, some of which total hundreds of Gigabytes large. Files App will error when it tries to delete the files
Steps To Reproduce
I'm sorry I can't give reproduction steps, as the files are gone once deleted.
I did try the following scenarios (at least until all my files were deleted):
- A single 100 GB file could be deleted just fine (with the Recycle warning)
- 6 files of 5GB each could be deleted just fine
- 7 files of 5GB each gave the error
- Any number of files totaling at least 50GB gave the error
- Any number of files totaling less than 15GB could be deleted just fine
- Between 15GB and 50GB, I didn't have enough remaining files for further investigations
It's just my guess, but perhaps Files has a problem deleting 2 files or more, if the total filesize exceeds a certain number?
There is nothing special about the location I'm deleting from (root directory of D:/ drive, e.g. D:/myfile.txt
). The drive is a regular NTFS drive - not network shared, not detachable, not admin restricted etc. It is BitLocker encrypted but probably unrelated.
The files themselves are nothing special as well. They were created by me using a regular zip tool. They don't have any access restrictions, and I am also the same user who is deleting them.
There are no issues with disk space or RAM or CPU. I have 300GB+ of free space remaining on that drive, and I have more than 10GB+ of free RAM. The CPU is unburdened with <5% usage.
There are no problems with the deletion if I had used File Explorer instead.
