What's new in 0.3.2

A big one: the rest of the VDMX and MadMapper list, free media from the internet, and a build for older Intel Macs.

Start with no media of your own (Library › Online)

  • Search free libraries for videos, pictures, icons, textures, fonts, music, MilkDrop visualisers and ISF shaders: NASA, Wikimedia Commons, the Internet Archive, Openverse, the Art Institute of Chicago, Iconify, Poly Haven, Google Fonts, netlabel music and isf.video. Click to bring one in; "Paid work OK" hides non-commercial licences.
  • Credits stay with each file in the project; copy them all from the Credits list.
  • Start a show: one click builds three layers of clips for a mood (Space, Nature, Retro, Club, Gallery).
  • Live data: weather anywhere, the space station and earthquakes as modulators; news headlines and a clock in any city on text layers.
  • Real lights by name (LED / DMX › A real light…): pick your light and its DMX mode from the Open Fixture Library.

New kinds of media

  • MilkDrop presets (.milk) as layers that move to the music; Lottie animations; laser shows (ILDA .ild); SVG drawings.
  • Stream Deck keys and dials as controllers, showing what each key does.
  • USB DMX (Enttec Pro and Open DMX cables) and Arduino boards (Firmata) as inputs and outputs.

Shows and timing

  • Timeline with keys for any control, markers, events, a sound track and Record; render a show to a movie offline, frame by frame.
  • Cues: choose what a cue changes, groups, schedules (on open, when idle, from a calendar).
  • MIDI clock, MIDI timecode and LTC out.

Mapping and outputs

  • Soft edges worked out from overlapping slices, split one picture across several screens, mirror outputs, a background picture behind slices, smooth edges.
  • Mesh warp handles, input mesh, slices from dropped files and drawn lines, mapping export as SVG, PNG and PDF.
  • 3D model slices: light, edges, shadows and picture wrapping.
  • LED scanner: blink the lights while a camera watches and each light is placed where it was seen. Ring and curve fixtures, a video wall template, patch lists from CSV, record and play back DMX.

Sound

  • Hear this Mac's sound (all apps) without a loopback driver; play-through; EQ on movie sound; each layer on its own output channels or sound device; NDI sends sound too; sound band modulators (kick, snare, voice).

Looks and effects

  • Your own blend modes; blend mode per effect; Hide Face, Blur Background, Colour Match and Palette effects; the Particles generator; deep colour (16 bits a channel); hold the eye button to compare without an effect.
  • Text layers in parts (lyrics, scripts), with ready-made movement, live clock / countdown / stopwatch.

Control

  • Control Surface: Choices, Text field, Multi-slider and Computed value widgets; import TouchOSC layouts.
  • Clip pad lights for Launchpad and APC mini; mappings that work only while their control is on screen; OSC Query client; send any control's value out over OSC or MIDI.

Everyday

  • File › Merge Project and New from Template; edit several layers or clips at once; Lock Panels; interface accent colour; eyedropper; save a picture of any layer.
  • The top bar's buttons sit in the middle of the bar; thumbnails keep their shape.

Older Macs: a separate download, Phosphor-mac-intel.zip, for Intel Macs on macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
It's the same app without screen and window capture or hearing the Mac's sound (they need newer macOS); hand and
body tracking need macOS 11 and Remove Background macOS 12. The main download stays Apple Silicon, macOS 13+.

Install

Mac (Apple silicon): download Phosphor-mac.zip, unzip, drag Phosphor to Applications. First launch: macOS says it can't verify Phosphor (not notarized yet): click Done, then System Settings › Privacy & Security › scroll down › Open Anyway, once.

Windows 10/11 (preview): download Phosphor-windows.zip, unzip anywhere, run Phosphor.exe. Windows warns once because the app isn't signed: More info, Run anyway.

Older Intel Macs (macOS 10.15 Catalina to 12): download Phosphor-mac-intel.zip, unzip, drag Phosphor to Applications. The first time, right-click Phosphor › Open › Open (it isn't notarized yet). Same app without screen / window capture and hearing the Mac's sound.

After that, Phosphor updates itself (Help › Check for Updates…).
