Appearance

The Token Appearance layer controls the standard token properties. Select it in the Layers list of The Visage Editor to see its settings.

Visage Local Editor Token Appearance settings

Tick the checkbox next to a setting to make the Visage change it. Anything left unticked is inherited from the token (and from any other Visages applied to it), which is what lets you stack Visages on top of each other.

The settings are grouped into four sections. Each section can be collapsed; while it is collapsed, its heading shows how many properties it changes and lists their values. The Identity, Size & Fit and Presentation sections each have a copy button (fill the section from a token) and a clear button (untick the whole section) in their heading. The same two buttons in the panel's header copy or clear all of Token Appearance. See The Visage Editor for how copying chooses its token.

Identity

  • Name: Changes the text shown on the token's nameplate. This is perfect for disguises (for example, an NPC named "Strahd" using a Visage to appear as "Vasili").
  • Image: The file path to the token artwork. This supports static images (.png, .webp), video files (.webm, .mp4) and wildcards (see Advanced Features). Use the file picker button to browse for a file.
  • Dylan's Animated Tokens: Only shown when the Dylan's Animated Tokens module is active. Sets the image up as a sprite sheet. See System & Module Compatibility Notes.
  • Actor Portrait: The file path to the artwork shown on the actor's sheet.

Size & Fit

  • X / Y / Z Dimension: The token's size in grid units (width, height and depth). For example, setting all three to 2 makes the token take up a 2 x 2 x 2 space, effectively "enlarging" it. Each dimension has its own checkbox, so you can change only one of them.
  • Image Fit Mode: How the image fits inside the token's footprint (the same options as Foundry's own token settings).
  • Scale: The size of the artwork inside the token, as a percentage. This is great for creating the illusion of size without changing the token's real size. The slider covers the common range, and you can type any value into its box.
  • Anchor Point (X / Y): Offsets the image from the centre of the token's footprint.

Presentation

  • Opacity: Makes the token semi-transparent. Great for ghosts, or to show invisibility.
  • Disposition: Overrides the token's border colour:
    • Friendly: Green.
    • Neutral: Yellow.
    • Hostile: Red.
    • Secret: Purple (owners see their usual colour, everyone else sees no border).
  • Rotation Lock: Whether the token's image rotates as it moves (On stops it rotating, Off lets it rotate).
  • Mirror Horizontally / Mirror Vertically: Flips the image on that axis (Standard or Flipped).

Transition

  • Animate Transition: Whether the token uses Foundry's standard transition animation when the Visage is applied. Choose No to make the token snap to its new appearance instantly.

Note: A ticked setting always applies its value, even when that value matches the token's own. For example, ticking Rotation Lock and choosing Off makes sure the token rotates, even if the token (or another Visage beneath this one) has its rotation locked. Leave the checkbox clear to keep whatever the token already has.

Tip: Settings that cannot be seen in the preview (scale, dimensions, rotation lock, wildcard, disposition and mirroring) are listed in the Applied values panel in the corner of the preview stage.
