v1.1.0 (2026-10-27)

Material and lighting controls for 3D models, and an API for other plugins. Thanks to @txinto (cosmoBots) for the contribution in #2.

Features

  • Material: show 3D models with their original materials or with matte materials, e.g. for shiny or metallic surfaces. Colors, textures and transparency are kept, and the file is not changed.

  • Lighting: original lighting or studio lighting. The studio lighting adds reflections, so that metallic models (e.g. glTF) are no longer displayed dark.

  • Settings: default material and lighting under Administration → Plugins → Redmine CAD Preview. Both are "Original" by default, so models look the same as in v1.0.0.

  • API for other plugins:

    • Ruby: set the material and lighting per attachment with RedmineCadPreview::ViewerOptions.register
    • JavaScript: cad-preview:ready and cad-preview:error events, exportView() and restoreView() to save and restore a view, setProjection() for an orthographic view, and getRenderContext() to create images of the view

Other changes

  • Translations of the new labels in all 14 languages
  • Tests of the viewer, run in CI

Upgrade

Replace the plugin directory and restart Redmine. No database migration, no extra gems.

  • Browser with WebGL and WebAssembly support

v1.0.0 (2026-10-25)

First release. Interactive preview of CAD attachments directly in Redmine. Instead of "No preview available", the attachment page now shows a viewer for issues, documents, files and wiki pages. Everything runs in the browser, all libraries are bundled, no files leave Redmine.

Features

  • 3D preview: rotate, zoom and pan, fit to view, wireframe mode
  • 2D preview: zoom and pan DXF drawings, DWG via server-side conversion
  • Measuring: overall dimensions, distance between two points, angle between three points
  • Export: current view as PNG or A4 PDF with measurement, file name and dimensions
  • Display: maximize to browser window or full screen
  • Thumbnails for CAD attachments in attachment lists
  • File icons for 3D models and drawings (Redmine 7.0+)
  • DWG conversion in the background after upload (LibreDWG, optional)
  • No database migration, no extra gems

Supported formats

  • 3D: STEP, IGES, BREP, FreeCAD (FCStd), STL, OBJ, 3MF, glTF/GLB, PLY, Collada, FBX, VRML, AMF, 3DS
  • 2D: DXF, DWG (requires LibreDWG)
  • Embedded preview image only: Autodesk Inventor, Solid Edge, SolidWorks
