I would like to express my gratitude to the host of the event, iteratec. Special thanks to Wolfgang Strunk and Florian Dufter who where helping me figure out the format for this event, and assisting all of us during the event.
I really appreciate Natalia Rabel for reaching out to me with her app idea. I hope that you can use the apps we built and wish you and your mother the best.
Of course, this event would not have been so great without the attendees. It's been great to have you at the event and I hope that you had a good time while working with Flutter.
Thank you for the prices: iteratec, JetBrains, and Freeletics
Build an app for people with aphasia.
Aphasia is an inability to formulate (or comprehend) language because of damage to specific brain regions. The major causes are a cerebral vascular accident (stroke), or head trauma, but aphasia can also be the result of brain tumors, brain infections, or neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. - Wikipedia
My mom had a stroke last year and since that she is suffering from Aphasia, an issue to recall and say words, numbers, dates, time, etc...
Last week I was playing around with the calendar app on her iPhone and she started crying because she could not say when my birthday is.
She can point to it in the calendar but just not say it.
I would like to make an app for that is generating random numbers, dates, times, and saying it in German, English or Polish (since she is Polish). This way, she could repeat after the app how to pronounce the numbers, dates, times, and practice on her own how to read and say numbers.
There are some apps for kids that do that, but it is very frustrating for grown-ups to use apps that are designed for children since they feel like an imbecile.
The app...
- generates random numbers, dates, times, words, sentences
- reads everything aloud to the user
- supports multiple languages
- is designed for adults with aphasia
You might add more features if you think it will result in a better application, user experience. Feel free to extend the app as you see fit, use open-source packages, or even use online services for the app.
You can see screenshots and video recordings for every team's solution in the ./solutions
folder. As the apps used text-to-speech, the GIFs might not do the apps justive, so clone the projects and see how they really work.
Do you want to share your solution with us? Create a pull request! We would like to see more solutions to this issue.
