Foundry v26.10.7.1
Release Overview
- New: Foundry OSD now downloads available updates in the background and installs a ready update from Apply update or silently when the application closes.
- New: An advisory before ISO creation, USB creation, or USB update now recommends applying a pending Foundry OSD update first.
- Reworked: Foundry Connect and Foundry Deploy now recommend rebuilding boot media when it was created with an older Foundry OSD release, independently of configuration schema changes.
- Improved: Windows ADK 10.1.26100.9457 is now the required release. Older installations are upgraded through the built-in ADK workflow.
- Fixed: Deployed devices no longer restart into the USB media or the firmware network boot menu instead of the installed Windows.
- Fixed: Repeating a USB operation on the same drive no longer fails with a disk identity mismatch after WinPE preparation.
- Fixed: ADK upgrades are no longer blocked when the existing ADK uninstall cannot verify its WIM mount driver package.
- Fixed: Blocked WinPE image files and locked ISO output files now produce actionable messages instead of generic failures.
- Fixed: An update is no longer applied automatically while another Foundry OSD instance is running.
- Fixed: Decrypted profile files no longer remain in the staging folder after a silent update on close.
- Maintenance: Corrected status texts and translations, removed obsolete code and resources, and improved error grouping in remote diagnostics.
Highlights
Automatic application updates
- When startup checking is enabled, Foundry OSD now downloads an available update in the background and shows the download progress in the navigation footer.
- Once the update is ready, choose Apply update in the navigation footer to install it and restart. Closing Foundry OSD normally also installs a ready update silently and leaves the application closed.
- Disabling startup checking still allows checking for and downloading updates manually from the update settings.
- A prepared update is kept and recovered at the next start. Windows shutdown or sign-out does not start the installer.
- The previous release notes and installation progress dialogs are removed. Release notes remain available from About.
Update guidance before media creation
- An advisory now appears before ISO creation, USB creation, or a USB update when a Foundry OSD update is available.
- Choose Apply update or View update, continue with Create anyway, or cancel.
- Media options and the selected USB drive are checked again after the advisory, before the operation starts.
Boot media rebuild guidance
- Boot media now records the Foundry OSD release that created it. Foundry Connect and Foundry Deploy compare it with their own running release.
- Media created with an older Foundry OSD release now shows guidance to update Foundry OSD and rebuild the media, including when no configuration schema changed.
- Legacy media whose authoring release cannot be determined keeps the existing rebuild guidance.
- Configuration schemas: Foundry Connect 4 → 5, Foundry Deploy 14 → 15. The authoring schema remains unchanged.
- Recreate existing ISO and USB media with this release to include the authoring release information.
Updates with several Foundry OSD instances
- Applying an update closes every Foundry OSD process started from the installation folder. Automatic installation is now skipped while another instance is running, so a media or ADK operation in another window is no longer interrupted.
- Starting a second instance no longer installs a downloaded update at startup. The update is shown as ready instead.
- Closing one of several instances no longer installs the update. It stays ready until no other instance is running.
- Apply update remains an explicit action and still closes the other instances.
Windows ADK 10.1.26100.9457
- Windows ADK 10.1.26100.9457 is now the target and minimum supported release, replacing 10.1.26100.2454.
- An installed 10.1.26100.2454 ADK now follows the existing uninstall and reinstall path.
- The upgrade no longer stops when the existing ADK uninstall fails with
0x80091007on its WIM mount driver package. Foundry releases the driver, then retries the uninstall once. - The ADK operation dialog now shows a success or failure icon when the operation ends.
- The Home page now reports an unsupported registered ADK release as incompatible, consistent with the ADK page.
USB media reliability
- The USB disk list is now refreshed after every USB creation or update, so a second operation on the same drive uses its current identity.
- The selected drive is now validated before WinPE preparation starts. A stale selection fails within seconds instead of after the full preparation.
- When the previously selected drive cannot be found and several drives are listed, no drive is selected automatically.
WinPE and ISO failure messages
- When Windows denies access to WinPE image files during the workspace build or image servicing, Foundry now explains the likely causes and the next steps: add a security software exclusion for the Foundry data folder, close tools that mount images, then restart.
- ISO finalization now retries briefly when the output file is locked. A persistent lock produces a message naming the ISO file and the likely causes, such as a mounted ISO or an ISO attached to a virtual machine.
- Stale workspace cleanup no longer logs a warning on every media creation for folders that are not Foundry operation workspaces.
- The new messages are available in all 38 supported languages.
Windows Boot Manager boot order
- After applying Windows, Foundry Deploy now registers Windows Boot Manager in the UEFI firmware and places it first in the firmware boot order.
- Devices that previously restarted into the USB media or the firmware network boot menu now start the installed Windows, so Post-installation can run.
- This step is best-effort. A failure is logged as a warning and the deployment continues with the previous behavior.
Update status and localization
- The dialog shown when a downloaded update cannot be applied no longer reports a failed update check.
- The update settings page no longer shows an untranslated status after a cancelled Windows shutdown or sign-out.
- A missing text for unknown computer name components is now available in Foundry OSD in all 38 supported languages.
- Blocked disk labels in Foundry Deploy no longer lose the space before the warning separator in 35 languages.
Remote error diagnostics
- Operational failures are now grouped by failure classification and deployment step instead of their shared code location, so unrelated failures are no longer merged into one issue.
- Unexpected crashes remain grouped by their stack trace.
