🛠️ Critical VPS Fixes

Bootstrap Swap Management Fix

  • CRITICAL: Fixed bootstrap script destroying existing swap memory instead of expanding it
  • Problem: Script would destroy 3GB existing swap and create only 512MB new swap, making memory situation worse
  • Solution: Added 10MB threshold check and proper swap expansion logic
  • Impact: VPS deployments no longer suffer memory degradation during bootstrap

SystemD Service Startup Fix

  • Fixed: Bootstrap systemd service killing itself during startup
  • Root Cause: pkill -f start-geth was matching the startup script itself
  • Solution: More specific process targeting (pkill -f geth.bin, pkill -x geth)
  • Result: VPS services now start reliably without self-termination

VPS Mining Thread Bug Fix

  • Fixed: Nodes with --miner.threads 0 still attempting quantum mining
  • Problem: QMPoW constructor defaulted to threads=1 causing "python not found" errors
  • Solution: Changed default from threads=1 to threads=-1 for proper CPU mining disable
  • Impact: VPS nodes properly disable mining when configured

🌐 Network & API Improvements

Enhanced Debug API Availability

  • Fixed: External services getting "debug_traceCall does not exist" errors
  • Solution: Added 'debug' module to --http.api and --ws.api in all start scripts
  • Result: Full debugging capabilities now available for external tools and services

Improved Testnet Connectivity

  • Added: Two new testnet bootnodes for better network connectivity
  • Benefit: Faster peer discovery and more reliable network connections

    • Preserves existing temp space usage with QGETH_BUILD_TEMP
    • Adds swap to /etc/fstab for persistence
  • Result: VPS builds succeed on systems with <4GB total memory

Docker Deployment Option

  • NEW: Added Docker option to bootstrap script for containerized deployments
  • Usage: Universal deployment across any environment supporting Docker
  • Benefit: Simplified deployment for users preferring containerization
