Thanks for the detailed report and for checking the plugin IID, that made this quick to track down. The automatic rebuild for KWin 6.8.2 did run. The GitHub release To get a working build now, either of these will do it: which pulls the 6.8.2 build COPR is serving now, or install |

Fixed in 3.5.4 (#1180). COPR builds from 3.5.4 on carry the rebuild revision in the package, so dnf offers a rebuild after a KWin update. Closing this, but reply here if you still see it on 3.5.4. |

Description
The PlasmaZones daemon starts and registers its shortcuts, but window placement does not work. The compositor bridge fails because both Fedora 44 RPMs (3.5.3-1 and 3.5.3-2) contain a KWin 6.7.5 effect, while the system runs KWin 6.8.2. Rebuilding v3.5.3 locally against KWin 6.8.2 resolved the problem without source-code changes.
Successful workaround:
I rebuilt the official PlasmaZones v3.5.3 source using rpmbuild and the upstream RPM spec, with kwin-devel-6.8.2-2.fc44 installed. No source-code modifications were necessary.
The resulting RPM contains org.kde.kwin.EffectPluginFactory6.8.2 instead of org.kde.kwin.EffectPluginFactory6.7.5.
After installing the locally rebuilt RPM and logging out and back in, PlasmaZones worked again. All existing layouts, rules and shortcuts were preserved.
Suggested fix: Rebuild and publish the Fedora 44 RPM against KWin 6.8.2 and verify the embedded plugin IID before release. The RPM dependency kwin >= 6.7.0 does not prevent this incompatibility.
Expected Behavior
PlasmaZones should load its KWin effect and provide working window placement after installation on Fedora 44 with KWin 6.8.2.
Steps to Reproduce

3.5.3
Display Server
Wayland
Desktop Environment
