coordinax v0.24.0

coordinax v0.24.0 is the v0.23 API running on unxt 2. It is a maintenance
line, separate from v0.25, which does its own unxt 2 migration. There are no new
features: upgrade if you need unxt 2.x, or stay on 0.23.x if you're on unxt 1.

💥 Breaking Changes

  • Requires Python ≥ 3.12 and unxt ≥ 2.0.4. unxt 2 doesn't support Python
3.11; on 3.11, pip will keep installing 0.23.x. The minimum versions of jax,
jaxtyping, quax and quax-blocks went up to match unxt.
  • BareQuantity is gone. unxt 2 renamed it to Quantity, and the
parametric class moved to unxts.parametric. Use u.Q (or u.Quantity).
  • u.Quantity["length"] no longer checks the dimension (this comes from
unxt 2). Vector components are plain u.Q values. Vector constructors still
reject components with the wrong dimension, as in 0.23 (#1009).
  • Comparing two quantities returns a dimensionless Quantity, not an
    Array
(also from unxt 2). For example, vec.x == other.x gives
Quantity(Array(True), unit=''). Comparing two whole vectors still returns an
    Array.
  • Printed quantities look different, e.g. Quantity(...) instead of
    Quantity['length'](...).

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • cx.frames.Galactocentric.from_(<astropy Galactocentric>) now works with
    astropy 8 (#1009).
  • The README quick example runs, and CI now tests it (#1009).
  • distance / parallax / distance_modulus choose what to do from the
quantity's unit, so a plain u.Q in length, angle, or magnitude units goes to
    the right conversion (#1008).

🔧 Maintenance

  • zeroth and optype are now declared dependencies; before, they were only
installed because other packages pulled them in (#1008, #1009).
  • Tested against astropy 7.0 – 8.0, unxt 2.0.4 – 2.0.5, and Python 3.12 – 3.14
    (#1008, #1009).
