💙 Special Thanks
A huge thank you to @UnderFusion, creator of GameHQ, for taking the time to test Console Overlay, finding why screenshots looked blurry on 4K displays and sending a patch to fix it. That fix is part of this release. His own release, GameHQ 0.8.0 Stable, is out now too: if you want a capture tool that works great with the overlay, go check it out!
Console Overlay 1.3.1
A big update with a lot of hours behind it. Thank you all for the support and the feedback!
✨ New
- Steam achievements, completed from Steam itself. For Steam games, the plugin now reads Steam's own local stats files (read-only, no network). Unlocks and progress counters show up in the menu as soon as the game reports them, instead of waiting for Playnite Achievements to refresh.
- Achievement names and descriptions in your language, using Steam's own translation when available.
- Six new languages (beta): Polish, Turkish, Korean, Dutch, Ukrainian and Traditional Chinese. They are machine-translated and not yet reviewed by native speakers, so they are marked "(beta)" in the language list. If you spot a mistake, fix it with a
lang\xx.txtfile in the plugin's data folder or tell me here. The plugin now supports 15 languages. - Sharper screenshots on 4K displays. The viewer now shows the original resolution (up to 3840 px wide) and gallery thumbnails are decoded at a higher quality. Thanks again, @UnderFusion!
🎨 Improved
- The controller battery always shows in its glass pill with its number, also with a single controller.
- New menu layout: bigger game preview placed higher, "Switch to" in its own glass card with more room between covers, and a lighter secondary text colour tinted with the theme.
- Achievements are re-read whenever the data changes, so the menu no longer shows an old state within the same session.
🐛 Fixed
- After leaving Achievements, the cursor could jump to another row when the mouse pointer was resting over the menu.
- Accepting in Achievements no longer plays a sound.
- The Achievements header (tabs and counters) stays in place when a filter shows fewer items.
- The menu no longer flickers out for a moment when the music player opens or closes.
- The capture counter in the gallery is aligned with the rest of the layout.
- Windows Media Player shows its proper name in the player list.
⚠️ Good to know
Many games only report counters (for example "break 666 objects") to Steam when you save or quit, so those can still lag behind what you see in-game. Unlocks, on the other hand, are reflected right away.
📦 Install / update
- Download
ConsoleOverlay_galcn10_1_3_1.pextbelow. - Double-click it (or drag it onto Playnite). Playnite asks to install and restart.
- Open Add-ons → Extensions settings → Console Overlay.
The optional in-menu clip player (mpv) still needs its own mpv folder inside the plugin folder; see the README.
☕ Support
If you like the plugin and want to support its development, you can do it on Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/galcn10. Totally optional, and thank you!
