Here's the value of my GAZEBO_RESOURCE_PATH

GAZEBO_RESOURCE_PATH=/home/hugo/local/share/gazebo-1.2.0:/home/hugo/local/share/gazebo_m

here's the content of
/home/hugo/local/share/gazebo-1.2.0/media/models/

sim_arm1.model
sim_arm2.model
sim_arm3.model
simple_arm_v1.model

The gazebo menu Models/models/ only contains ground_plane
